Donations to a political party or candidate are pure lobbying for the purpose of gaining favor or appearing bi-partisan. They do little to nothing for this or any conversation other than giving fresh air to echo chambers. Shadow banning, ranking, policy changes and algorithmic manipulation, however, are a different story.

Don't care for guntubers. I got into guns before youtube existed. I bought my first gun without others opinions and just from reading. I shot my first gun without having to watch others do it first.

The YouTube gun crowd is largely super professional and safety oriented.

I find it interesting that sponsorships are somehow a problem area, but videos of people getting murdered, knocked out, jumped, etc

At the same time, they’ve gotten pretty lame over time.

It’s basically click bait law videos and tAcTiCoOl crap. Also I shouldn’t be hearing embedded ads if I pay for premium…

Apparently these policies have been in place since 2024. I don’t know what all the fuss is about right now.

I’ve been quietly downloading gun smithing videos from YouTube. Disassembly and reassembly of guns I own. Repairs. Modifications. I’ve got a hard drive with them backed up. I think it’s just a matter of time before they get taken down. If there is a complete disassembly/ reassembly of a rifle or pistol you own or want to build. I would download the video as a fail safe sooner than later.

These "guntubers" are more precious than like Colion, Garand Thumb, etc. These videos are more informational and educating than "look at what a 9mm does to a eggplant!"

And after my personal experience with a certain user that is a youtuber based on donated/shill items that they review and then does a bull i-don't-follow-my-own-rules giveaways, yea, these shill bullting youtubers can begone for all I care.

I don't need it. That is their livelihood, to make money off our views so they can buy more toys or gifted more guns. I don't live to make their livelihood more enjoyable than mine. (although it is, but I don't need to contribute to their wealth, they ain't contributing to mine to show me what theyll shoot with their latest free toy they got.)

My two cents again, most of the channels I tend to watch are for educational purposes, not all are in it for the money. How many times have any of you used it when you were stuck on fixing something and just needed that one extra tidbit of info you missed. Youtubers do have their uses on some things.

Most if not all of these gun fidgitting youtubers that I watch to get maintenance and care information on guns don't have the thousands+ subscribers to show that they are making money from our views. Most if not all tools and guns shown in these vids show heavy wear or use that is bit obvious they don't get free stuff, don't flaunt that , or shill for products they are sponsored from if any. These are the true gem guntubers.

Some guntubers are negligent in their showings. Reno May used his connections as "guntuber" and followers and CA gun forums to try and get people to donate to the F-ing retard "William Sun" ligitation court fees via gofundme.

You know what William Sun did with the money? Paid off the guns he bought, personal uses, and zero to court fees.

Reno May got people to pay for a prohibited retards gun collection.

Most guntubers can suck a for all I care on this subject. You think Reno May would do that for all the CA gunowners that may see gun troubles in future?

I really need to stop watching YouTube. What is the alternative that doesn’t hinder gun video producers, etc?

Peertube and ActivityPub in general (lemmy, piefed, etc).

There’s more and more folks out there rejecting corporate platforms and selfhosting instead to escape censorship and control.

But the tradeoff is giving up all those sweet sweet youtube dollars. Those doing it for the love of the craft will find themselves resilient and empowered.

In a glass half full/empty sense there isn’t much firearm content or discussion on the fediverse (which is why I come here), an opportunity or a curse depending on how you look at it.

Personally I see rumble et al as just more sharecroppers. Ther “right now” answer instead of the right answer.

Guess I'm glad my channel is not big enough to anyone to want to send me free guns. Though, I'm a Fusion Firearms "Ambassador" and they claim they heavily discount firearms for the purposes of comparison. Pretty sure that would be purchasing it with my own $.

To add to this… when bias and manipulation has surfaced in the past, it’s always blamed on a lone rouge employee with access to “the button”. You don’t need an entire organization to be hostile to still be on the receiving end of a sharp stick.

They're more friendly than you think. It would be easier to ban the sub culture but there's plenty of people there at understand the necessity of it. You aren't going to be making what they make and then think being soft on crime while being taxed the way you do is right.


As I've tried to mention to people, they don't know what they don't know because what they know is based on what they used to see in the news. That's changing and been changing since the VID.

The truth of the matter, it's just not profitable because their advertisers don't want to be associated with Guns because overall societal views. I wrote in another post, I used to work at an ad tech company that's still well known. One of the original infrastructure engineers, 100% US traffic (99% in California), 19% women 81% men with disposable income with an even distribution age range is supposed to be an asset, but we only get 48% fill rate. The niche itself is just volatile and there's a higher rate of unstable people doing sketchy things in it.

I think you just have to look at it from a purely economic POV. This is a niche market. Think of it like Vegans.

This is Global, in the US Firearms wins, but just gotta think of it as if we're the vegans of the world. There's a lot of restrictions on firearms globally. It's not that Google is "left wing" as much as they run a consensus model. Revenue and profit is the main thing.




Youtubers will have to find another way to monetize. we're definitely making progress... That's for sure. A LOT of tech people are picking up firearms too especially with Manzano Gun Runners coming up, that's a great place to start introducing people in the valley...

I also think, there will be a way for legitimate YouTubers to make money. There is a BIG growth in the key age range that we see, just have to figure out a better model. IG and YT are the biggest platforms, I tried on TikTok but those guys are the worst. I had 2 strikes there so decided it wasn't worth it on that platform.
