YouTube/GunTube Policy change - what do you think?

I don't think the money the creator makes from YouTube is the "something of value" they're talking about. That's money from YouTube, not the manufacturer. Otherwise any monetized review of anything you borrowed would automatically become branded content.

If Walther gives you the gun or pays you, that's pretty clear. If they loan it to you for two weeks, you send it back and no money changes hands, that's the part I think still needs clarification. I agree it comes down to how YouTube interprets it.

Youtube and Google are doing what old established money do - squander their advantage to maintain a status quo for as long as possible and then get gapped. Have you noticed the uptick in ads since the end of covid and the ramp up of the not-wars? Looks more like a company trying to squeeze the last drop out of its customers than an innovator. Growing up with Google it was a hard gut shot when they removed "Don't Be Evil" slogan. The companies are no longer aligned with their initial mission. Let Youtube continue to unnecessarily restrict their income while they promote ideology that gets them sued and closer to being labeled as a managed/moderated platform.

As a Pixel owner, there are few alternatives but i don't stay informed.

They’ve made it harder to classify and get monetized on YouTube, requirements are double now. In August Google came down hard on AI content with many sites losing 60%+ of traffic.

It takes a lot of storage and indexing and memory and storage is expensive now.

We should not speculate on the revenue and profit of YouTube, since Google does not publish anything other than the top-line advertising revenue for it. The actual operating cost breakdown of YouTube is only known to a handful of insiders. What is publicly known is that YouTube was losing money like a fire hose initially, and for a long time struggled to make a profit, even long after Google acquired it.
 
Funny, anytime a guntuber starts talking about a manufacturer sending them a product to review i turn the video off.......they aren't "reviews" they are just poorly disguised advertisements.

I disagree with YouTube's anti 2A policies, but I also lost interest in watching guntubers pretending they are unbiased regular people reviewing products with no ulterior motive.
 
Wondering if they'll do the same for al the outdoor people who get free gear, car tubers, makeup, toys, etc. So much of the YT space is built upon free products that benefit the brand. Curious what's truly behind this change.

No of course not. That’s literally the economy of influencers and big channels.

They just hate guns.

bay area company ran by bay area people that don’t like guns. Not rocket science.
 
YouTube is probably worried about potential lawsuits or something. I'm sure there was a meeting with some executive that had to go through multiple layers of approval for them to implement this policy.

My guess is that YouTube isn't generating enough ad revenue from gun content to make it worth their time to deal with those potential lawsuits.
