Which Two Guns for SHTF

I'm surprised at the lack of shotgun votes, I'd definitely pick one over a rifle since they're so versatile. Heck, you can even shoot pistol rounds through them with those shell adapters.

Rifled barrels and slugs exist too, you know. If you think a shotgun can't do long range, you are very mistaken. I'd take a shotgun over a 22 pistol for hunting any day.

In a perfect world (or another state,) belt fed, crew served backed up by any rifle in the same caliber. With my budget, M1A Standard with a sling and an M9A1 with a Brigadier slide.

Yeah, we clearly do have different mindsets since lugging around a belt-fed gun is something I can't ever see being used for in any actual scenario

I would say that you should chose the firearms that you are most competent with. I own many, but rarely shoot them all. Training is everything in a gunfight. Pick a gun you are familiar with and accurate with. I love my 10mm G20, but I am much more accurate with my HK P2000 in .40 cal, so i would take that before my G20. I would also likely take my SOCOM 16 over one of my ARs. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Probably an AR-15 or AK-47 (carbine) and 1911 (service pistol).

Although all that CA compliant crap goes out the window -- no more BBs. And all my high-cap mags get pulled up from their resting spot at the bottom of the lake.

For someone that went thru a revolution in 89 being mobile and looking in place does miracles. My dad that 3 yrs military training in urban warfare just wanted to get out of there and took side streets to stay out of sight of the main groups. Everything out of place will attack attention and can get you kill! Have a compact gun and a break apart riffle if you must like a 10/22 takedown, but do not show you are comando or rambo, even a rock form the crowd can take you out!

Overall I'd say a rifle and a combination of a service and a concealable handgun. I can easily conceal a 4 inch sidearm which can also serve as a duty weapon.

In a SHTF scenario, as much as I would love my AR-15 and 1911, it's impractical to keep them clean, oiled, and running perfectly without access to a tool set, proper cleaning station, etc. Can hunt with the Scout, and I'm not expecting to get into a gun battle if I'm in the woods just trying to survive.

I never thought of the maintenance aspect but that's a great point. AR folks might be doing a lot of field stripping and hoping to find synthetic oil lying around.

Yeah, what are you supposed to do if you drop the AR-15 or 1911 in some mud or get sand in it, and can't clean it properly? What if you have no oil? It turns into a single shot rifle. I would rather have the Scout and Glock in any SHTF scenario for that reason.

When you consider finding yourself in a SHTF scenario, you'd probably want to have ready access to a whole arsenal of firearms. But what if you could only grab two California-compliant ones? What would they be?

As you consider each type, assume the make and model you have or would want is available, in the caliber you prefer, and with "enough" ammo of the kind you prefer (however much that is), including any slings, holsters, cases, optics, etc. But also assume they are in California-compliant configuration with California-compliant magazines you acquired in, say, July of 2024.

Glock 20 and Springfield M1A Scout. I would have a pile of parts for each.

But semi-auto may not have the longevity. Perhaps a Mauser based action bolt rifle since it's easier to machine parts for it.

In the CITY a rifle will draw attention and I think I'd want to be remain unnoticed.

Therefore, I think would want two pistols, one 9 mm that hopefully never gets used, and an accurate 22 lr.

The 9mm can be any one of the great pistols I already have.

The 22 lr pistol would ideally be a lightweight MK IV which are not on the roster. The standard MK IV Target is and is a great pistol but its heavier than I'd want to carry everday, and weight wise it's not far from a take-down 10/22.

Ruger 10/22 takedown and a Ruger Mark IV pistol. Standard capacity mags can give you some "firepower" if needed, .22lr ammo is very portable in large quantities, and can be used to hunt birds and small game for the foreseeable future.

Logical. I love my takedown and bought it for this (admittedly paranoid) scenario. New mag springs in my SR22 made it quite reliable. Low recoil means my wife shoots it well.
