CCW Orange County CCW

The OC Sheriff's office told me a few months ago to wait to take the CCW class until after my interview. I applied for a CCW in November 2024 and my interview is this week. I have been practicing a lot in that time, still not perfect, but proud of my improvements.

Statutes require that the IA not approve training until after application initial approval. However, if you accept the risk of not being approved, you can move forward before the interview.

Now, I’d suggest you drop the Bullseye targets and use a B-27 at specific yardage based on the IA published Course of Fire.

You’ll do fine (and perfection isn’t required). Course of Fire.

Cool thanks. Well, the interview is in a couple days. I would have done the course had I known. The bullsye's were all at 7 yards. I am not quite as accurate with my snubnose.
 
Orange County CCW qualify is 24 rounds per hand gun, 8 rounds @ 3, 5, 7 yards, also OC you can have up to 30 handguns on your license and add (amend) at any time but still have qualify w/ those added , for those added you will have to wait till you get your new license w/ those on it until u can carry. LA County CCW qualify is 72 rounds for first hand gun and if I recall correctly 24 rounds for additional guns. Orange County use to follow the LA model until if I recall correctly Jan 2025 they reduced. (I do not think OCSD has the new policy regarding the above on their document yet as the one online is still dated from 10/2024)

Wondering where you got the 30-max from for OC? Everything I’ve seen and heard, including from the case manager who interviewed me at OCSD, has said there is no limit, only that each card will list up to 5 firearms, with as many addendum cards issued as necessary to list them all (and of course you can only actually carry 2 at any one time).

Looking through the training agencies certified for CCW, the new COF is as you depicted. The major point of my post was that folks should be practicing on the B-27 target rather than the bullseye target. Number of rounds is secondary.

Only say 30 cause a place tried to add 45 pistols for someone and the dept called the place and asked them to have the person choose 30 as it stopped printing cards past 30 hand guns. (but really i've really only seen at most someone try to qualify with 10 pistols

Totally understand your point regarding B-27 targets. The major issue i've seen w/ ccw people is they only shoot like once every few months (if that) and some do not even shoot until they have to renew the ccw.

Ah got it, so not quite the “unlimited” they claim 😆 Good to know, thank you very much. But damn, 45! Thats wild! And here I am with 14 listed on my permit thinking that’s insanity. 😂

In my opinion they need to switch the qualify to caliber and maybe along w/ that barrel length (ex. over or under 3.5) instead of every pistol. Its stupid, if i have 2 glock 19 gen 3 (same color etc. ) id have to qualify with each one
 
I don't recall 2A says anything about qualifications or permits. Someone, please correct SomeOne. :)
 
My appointment got bumped sooner by 3 months. So instead of 10 months from March 1, 2025, it would be a 7 month wait.
