CCW Orange County CCW

I didn't get training certificate yet. I didn't do live scan for CCW yet. I read that I'm supposed to do them after I pass interview.
The email I received from OC Sheriff's Dept said they "are advancing a large volume of interviews forward."

from my understand, in orange county if you have a clean record juvenile or adult and nothing has been expunged etc. you can do you training, live scan etc and you might be bumped even further, if you have a record or something then you should at least have your live scan done so when you have your interview they can tell you to take the training or not (but they will give you only like a 3 week window)

Current new application times seem to be about 3 months (or less). There were two schedule pull-ins as they added more staff so it might be even better now. The fee did go up on 7/1, but that seems to only apply to applications submitted on or after 7/1.

You can do the training and live scan at any time. There is a risk of wasting that money if your application gets denied for some reason. That is what I was told at my in-person interview.

There is also an issue of time. From what I saw (4 IAs including OCSD) they want the training to be dated within three months of when they review it. I'm sure they have a number for the live scan as well.
I did mine before the inital interview and uploaded the docs so at the end of the interview it was just reference checks which were called within 10 minutes of the end of the interview and their internal final review which took the rest of the day. The next morning I had an email from the system to call OCSD to make the final payment and they said the card would be mailed out by the end of the day.

I am looking to take more ccw classes to improve my skills, any recommendations of who to use? I have done a class with Artifex.
I have done several classes with TJ of All Safe Defense Systems. He teaches NRA style and does not spend any time yelling at his students like some instructors. For CCW, two great classes are the Personal Protection Inside the Home and Peraonal Protection out of the home. The 2nd qualifies for the OC CCW class. Lots of shooting and great information. Cost is very low as well.

I got an email last week about needing to do Live Scan so I did that and then a couple days ago got an email that they need to bump people up earlier for interviews so I just completed my interview. They give you 3 weeks to complete training certificate after interview. So total time for me to get CCW is about 6 months.

I had an issue when renewing my OC CCW late last year as well. They were transitioning to a new system and I had to redo my application twice. I had another issue with my primary carry pistol that they had questions on. I ended up having to send them a digital copy of the sales paperwork as they didn't accept the description of this particular pistol that I've used as my primary for the last six years.
Fortunately, I had the phone number of the original OC reviewer at OCSD that interviewed me 10 years ago. I was fortunate that she was still there. She was very helpful in clearing things up. She no longer dealt directly with the public as she had advanced up the chain. Even the other lady that helped me was helpful. There are a lot of fine people at the OC Sheriff's Dept. They also have trouble with the system at times.

How's the interview? are the OCSD AI strict? I have civil case (credit card collection) year 2020 when I get divorced. Is that reason for CCW denial? other than that I don't have background issue? I have interview in 3 weeks. Lived scan is done and submitted and the interview date was bumped to almost 4 months early. I also just uploaded the training certificate.

Interview was very straight forward and only took about 10 minutes. Pretty much just went through the Q’s from the app to confirm answers and verify all the personal and weapons info, as well as make sure all needed docs were uploaded. Credit card issue should be just a credit report thing, not something that should show up in their background check, as they really only look for criminal and psych issues that would otherwise DQ you. They called references within about a half hour after the interview and then pushed the app to final review same day.

After the interview this morning the CCW Pro status was changed from "Schedule for Interview" to "Moved for Review". What will be next status in CCW Pro after that?

Congrats! Seems OC has been working hard on speeding up their processing timelines.
