You can feel free to die on this hill and say San Jose is in Southern California and it won't bother me one bit. We'll just agree that everything north of San Jose (aka almost the entire Bay Area) is in Northern California.You mean San Jose, which is south of your arbitrarily drawn line demarcating southern and northern California? So things south of the line you say are north? And Fresno is Socal?

There is nothing arbitrary about splitting a state evenly in half vertically and calling everything north of that line "northern" and everything south of that line "southern." What you appear to be doing is quite arbitrary however.
