Finally moved out of CA to a free(er) state

Pretty much lived in northern California most of my life.
Have family snd friends there.

I own my own business that's 100% online so can work Wherever.

It was scary going against the comfort of what's known and just take the plunge to the unknown.

Now I look back and can not even really imagine why it took so long to make the decision to leave.

And no...guns were not the driving factor. I am a USPSA shooter, etc and where I lived in Nor Cal I really never worried about taking AR's out to shoot.

And since moving to my new state have inly been out shooting twice. Lol.

But...i did buy a few goodies. FRT triggers. And a couple of suppressors.

Every state has its issues. But where I now live its a self policing town...no sheriff's sub station or local PD. The majority of folks open carry. Rifles in racks of the back windows of trucks, etc.

More guns wouldn't interest me but I'd probably get a couple suppressors and I'd change the barrel on my MK IV Target a to lightweight barrel.

I think I'd own fewer guns!

I will definitely trim down my collection. Shooting suppressed is just so much better, it can get dirty very quick, but not having to tolerate annoying muzzle brake when shooting next to someone is just much nicer experience.

I won't even shoot rifles because of the noise of what might be in the next lane, and it's bad enough when I have a 10mm next to me at the pistol range. I can't double up on ears because i wear hearing aids under my ear pro and need to be able to talk to people or hear something important.

For a time was contemplating a move out of state to TN, but in retrospect guns I realized that my entire rationale WOULD have been "guns". Thankfully I came to realize that such a move would have been incredibly foolish; guns are just a hobby.

When something is restricted it makes us cherish it more and I believe I'd own fewer if they were unrestricted.

It seems like the government creates conditions of madness to keep us stressed and distracted.

Cost of living is a major factor too. If I lived in TN I would still be making L.A. money working from home. Guns would just be a perk.

With the sale of a CA property before the move, one could buy land, possibly pay off the land and a home, and build a little gun range on one's own land after checking laws and guidelines. Lots to consider.

For some, this is the move when going from CA to less populous, lower cost-of-living states where there's no local dependence on a job. I've been considering this myself as I edge closer to retirement.

It is a public county park, lots of cyclists, joggers, hikers all around coming to use the park. Two sporting clays courses winding through the public roads, joggers, hikers, cyclists would wave at us and some would even say Hi to us. People there treat safe gun practice as just normal everyday recreation.

Try that here in the bay area. That's how Chabot got shutdown. I was hiking up the Coyote Ridge in south San Jose, right next to the Metcalf shooting range. We can hear gunfire while hiking all the way up to the ridge top. The volunteer hiking leads told us many times they don't like the range and would like to see it shutdown. That is the biggest cultural gap I see. I am generalizing, but that is my observation.

I really do miss Chabot. Was a beautiful setting for a range. I had my bachelor party 15+ years ago at Coyote Valley Sporting Clays in San Jose and had the folks who normally do the BBQ there cater my event. Shotguns and meat. Was a lot of fun. My uncle sent me photos to my work email address while I was opening a file in a meeting while presenting. Everyone snickered when they saw an email titled bachelor party photos assuming it was lurid stuff. I wanted to show them it wasn’t but I didn’t. Showing a photo of a bunch of men holding shotguns would have likely got me in more trouble than if we were at a strip joint (and I don’t do that stuff even when I was young - just not my scene).
