Which Two Guns for SHTF

It hugely depends on the type of SHTF situation. In an urban setting you want to be a gray man. However, if you are in your bugout place, the choice of guns is significantly different. There is no universal answer there.

My suggestion is do not be in an urban area for SHTF. Bug out immediately and you can still be gray. But us 2A guys are hard to be gray with our choice of clothing

Glock 17 and 10/22 takedown.

I understand the reasoning behind G19, but I shoot the 17 more accurately. I can worry about the magazine issue if I survive that long.

Aren't 17 and 19 mags interchangeable?

My buddy in NC has plenty of guns and ammo.

Gas for a generator, not so much, so kiss the well pump goodbye within 5 days.
Fresh water his family burned thru quickly.
There was a prescription med issue.

More people than would like to admit have health issues that will hammer them within a week.
They wont have a supply of fuel or power and will not be physically capable of multiple day long family hikes hauling their most needed crap.

You buddy needs to get some solar for his pump, if he lives in the sticks.
As far as health issue, I agree that is going to take so many out. What's rule number 1 in zombie land? Cardio.
I am lucky, I have blm land as my backyard, and go hiking with gear all the time.

Precisely why my ARs are fixed mag with the hogue FF and juggernaut pin. I keep the Allen to remove the FF pin inside the grip with a spare bolt, and can have that thing out in less than a minute. Imagine running around with a goofy ass featureless grip in a SHTF scenario, couldn't be me!

Depends on the threat. If SHTF and there's civil/societal unrest then probably AR15/G17

Otherwise if one has to bug out into the woods probably a 12 gauge/.22.

Assuming I don't have immediate access to my firearms, and I was here in the US, I'd look for a reliable rifle in 5.56, and a reliable pistol in 9mm.

Those are two of the most common rounds in abundant supply in this country, and I'd have little trouble scrounging enough ammo to get home to my supplies.

Both calibers are adequate for a multitude of applications, from defense to hunting to standoff. Simple machines like a glock and a M&P Sport II will be running with minimal maintenance long after you've run out of food and ammo.

Good point - if I was in an urban area, maybe a g19 and Ruger pc carbine in the Magpul stock. Outside of the city, ar15 and Glock 19. In the woods, shotgun and g19. Wide open country, bolt action rifle and shotgun.

Probably a Glock 19 and an AK. Although not much delivers the destructive power of a shotgun.

If SHTF and I have to defend the home and family, it’s the combo below. Crazy accurate and reliable. The fin grip will be off the AK lickety spit. Sling’s also been put on since the pic was taken.

If bugging out however, it’s a P226 and AR-15 (most likely the LMT New Zealand Reference)…although I would be tempted to grab a G19 instead of the P226.

ok, since its my version of SHTF, and I live in greater LA, id say a P365XL for CCW, and then a 16" AR (featureless so I can use detachable mags, maybe MCX Regulator) with a 3-15x and a piggyback red dot, set up for more of a midrange weapon. I think SHTF is all about avoiding fights, so in public its all about CCW, and for observation and maybe fighting, an AR that would ideally be utilized in very targeted offensive action, but is ready for closer range defensive action. Piggyback red dot for use close or passively under NODs, 3-16 to take shots 50 and 500.

That being said, to echo everyone else, the moment it feels like the cops aren't coming anymore, CA compliance isn't happening anymore.

In true true true shtf it doesn’t really matter. Any semi auto will do. Resupply isn’t important imo as the odds of making it through multiple firefights are exceptionally low. This ain’t the movies and there won’t be any trauma centers in that situation.

There's a system when shtf, everybody that owns a home or is known to be in a fixed location aka apartment or orther dwelling, will have to surrender their firearms just like they did in Hurricane Katrina. let's all step out of the fantasy and study the recent history of disaster and government response and the control it forces on the population. Those 4473 forms are the starting point, then purchase history, ccw registration, etc. The real question is how would you evade and survive. Not a shopping list.

5.56 and 9mm. Most common calibers out there if this scenario lasts to the point you have to scrounge resources. Ideally have a .22lr conversion kit for small game and one brick of ammo. Honestly, in a shtf the best thing to do is avoid all possible confrontations if you can. People are barely civil in the best of times.

Not enough wilderness in SoCal by me to be thinking about hunting rifles, shotguns, etc because there are no bears, deers, wolves, etc. The time it would take for the animals to come back, and assuming I was still alive, I probably would have different loadout by then due to unfortunate circumstances.
