I agree with the front porch option. I sit on mine frequently. I have a home built in 1935 with a traditional front porch. It’s located in an old neighborhood. And I’ve added outdoor speakers so I can listen to my music.

I think every home should have a porch one can sit on and watch people walk by and greet them. It’s a great American tradition that has mostly faded away.

The question was "what if" you could only grab California-compliant firearms, because the majority of people on these forums are only able to train with such. Which two you would actually choose, without such a restriction, is a different question.

You’d be surprised how many CA instructors do not “recognize” CA compliant rifles. Nor do they recommend them. It’s an odd grey area cause it is indeed a felony. But I’m just sharing what I have seen and learned over the years.

Remington 1187 police model and Beretta M9. My 1187 is reasonably accurate to 100 yds with slugs and 40 yds with 00 buck. I keep a modified choke in the 1187 which accounts for the accuracy.

Since it’s SHTF, a sawed off side by side or over under with caliber inserts, a side arm and rifle.

Well, in Cali-friendly mode, A Mini 14 and probably my HK P30S 9mm---if my wife came with me, I assume she would get two firearms as well---a 10-22 and I would change out to an HK P2000 9mm sidearm , so my wife could carry my HK USPc in 9mm and we could share pistol magazines...
I hope this is not cheating, but I don't care if it is...!

for me, its a handgun and rifle in same caliber. I have a .357 revolver and takedown lever rifle. Although I prefer my .45Colt SAA and takedown lever rifle, in a real SHTF situation, .357 might be easier to find on the ground next to the bodies and it can fire .38spl too. But I decided on .45 so my "go" bag has 50 rounds of .45ACP and .45Colt, 100 rounds .22LR and 20 rounds 12Gauge ammo. My 10/22 is also a takedown. I doubt I would try and carry my pump shotgun but I have the ammo in the bag just in case, the ammo is in a backpack and I can carry that much all day. My 3 takedown rifles are in backpacks of their own and I have a left side holster for my .45ACP along with a right side holster for the .45Colt. But I doubt I could walk all day with all that weigh, so if I knew I was leaving my truck and walking would pare it down to one handgun and one rifle. The truck of course would carry more ammo and guns but you have to plan on being mobile on foot in a real situation and weight is everything. My wife's go bag is 9mm and she has a shoulder holster for her 9mm.

I personally have a suppressed SBR in 556, and a 9mm 2011.
Built the SO an SBR the same way so we can use each others with no changes

Honestly if SHTF and the world was ending, I'd be torn between taking my glock 19 or my 2011.

My heart says 2011, but my brain says glock just makes sense in terms of reliability and finding spare parts

Buy a stealth arms platypus. The best of both worlds. G17 mags in a 2011, and it is accurate and reliable as all get out.
