Well, my father first picked up a WWI long barrel Izarra while he was in France fighting the s. (I have the bring back papers.). He made sweetheart grips for it.

Then, after he returned home with a purple heart, he bought the Luger. He was still single so he had some time on his hands. He bought it and a box of ammo from a Missouri gun dealer for 35 dollars.

My guess is that he was inspired by the grips he made for the Izara and laminated the colored strips together and made the grips for the Luger. He also made a small jewelry box for the woman who would become my mother.

FYI, the woman under the grip on the Izarra is his kid sister (my aunt) as at the time, he had no sweetheart, girl friend or wife.

How did you customize?

Nothing special or crazy. G10 grips, polished feed ramp, minor mod for takedown without using that stupid little plastic tool. Also a sight adjustment because it was pulling left when I tested shooting from a bench rest.

You can grind down the profile of the lugs that hold the barrel link enough for the whole guide rod/recoil spring/slid spring assembly to slip out without using the plastic tool to totally compress the springs.

I just started reading for modifications. It sounds like we can convert to an officer 3” 9mm guide rod kit with reverse plug.

I have no idea if this has an affect on recoil or shootability.

One stop at bass pro to "just look around" and we have a new contender. Walther PPK! Not the ppk/s, a ppk with the shorter grip. The pistol carried by my two favorite fictional spys, Sterling Archer and James Bond. Except mine is .380 acp and I don't carry it in my underwear. Trigger is interesting, but manageable. All the old times were super excited to talk with me about all the PPK's they own and how great of a gun it is. Just got back from the range, right out of the box it ran flawlessly. It didn't bite me like the older interarms ppk's and it was surprisingly more comfortable than the beretta 80x. The all steel construction makes a huge difference.

Haha!! Me, too!!

Lucky for me the agency I retired from allows you to carry whatever is legal. You just need to qual with the same ‘type’ of firearm you want to carry. So I qual with a revolver, a striker-fired semi-auto, and a hammer-fired semi-auto.

That covers all my bases and the Velo Dog gets to ride along, haha!!

I’m retired LE. My former agency issues my CCW and that’s the policy they have for retirees.

We have to requal every 5 years if we’re just carrying in CA or requal every year to carry out-of-state under LEOSA.
