This is why i usually just consign

Lowballers are better than no bidders at all imo. THey help you to find the market floor for whatever you're selling. Sometimes you may need to sell in a pinch and they enable quick turnarounds. I don't mind lowballers at all, nor do I mind low balling offers to people. Occasionally I don't really want something bad enough to pay whatever market rate is worth, but I may be willing to buy for a great deal, and on those occasions sometimes people want the money quickly and are happy to make a deal.

If you don't like low offers it's easy enough to ignore them there's no sense in being frustrated that people are offering you money for something.

Since you asked me directly, I actually looked at all three of your ads. No, I don't think your prices are generally unrealistic, but I think there's a difference between “realistic asking price,” “what someone will actually pay today,” and “what I could net after consignment.”

The BCM/LWRC at $1,200: I don't think that's crazy considering the BCM complete upper, LWRC lower, Geissele trigger and Geissele charging handle. But it's still a used mixed-build AR, and those are notoriously difficult to sell for the sum of their components. RustVendor's $1,339 new LWRC isn't apples-to-apples, but it's absolutely relevant because that's another option sitting in front of the same buyer. I think $1,000–1,100 would be a perfectly reasonable offer, while $1,200 is also a reasonable price to hold out for if you're in no hurry. As RustVendor pointed out, you'd probably recover more of the premium parts' value by selling them separately.

The Echelons: $600 without the COA seems reasonable to me. $1,100 with the COA feels high. Springfield's factory 4.0C/COA package had an MSRP around $1,119, and we've seen complete new packages advertised nationally around $800. The COA may be roughly a $600 optic new, but putting a $600 optic on a $600 used pistol doesn't automatically make it a $1,200 used package. Accessories generally depreciate harder, and the package buyer has to specifically want that optic. I'd see roughly $950–1,000 as more attractive. $1,100 isn't insane, but it's getting awfully close to new-package MSRP.

The Tikka T3x TAC A1: I think this is your strongest price. $1,600 for a ~30-round left-handed 6.5 Creedmoor looks completely reasonable. Comparable., used TAC A1s are in roughly the $1,500–1,750 neighborhood, with left-handed examples sometimes higher. $700 for the Tenmile HX doesn't strike me as unreasonable either, so I think your $2,300 combined price is defensible. The $4,600 you spent OTD isn't really relevant to its used value, but you're already recognizing that yourself by asking about half of it.

As far as consignment, if your local shop really only charges 15%, that's a very good consignment rate compared with the 20–30% I've commonly seen. But even at 15%, to net $1,200 they have to sell the rifle for about $1,412; to net $1,100 on the Echelon/COA they need about $1,294; and to net $2,300 on the Tikka package they need about $2,706. Plus there's the consignment waiting period we already discussed. So I wouldn't automatically equate your current PPT asking prices with what you'd “easily” net by consigning them.

The part I do think is inconsistent is your treatment of the G19 Gen 4. You said anyone paying more than $500 for one is a sucker because an Echelon is a better gun for the money. That's a perfectly valid reason for you not to buy one, but it doesn't determine market value. If G19.4s are changing hands in the CA PPT market for $700–900, that's their market value whether either of us thinks they're worth it or not. Otherwise someone can make exactly the same argument about your rifle: “Anyone paying $1,200 for a used BCM/LWRC build is a sucker when I can buy a complete new LWRC for $1,339.” Their preference doesn't make your rifle worth $700 any more than your preference for an Echelon makes his Glock worth $500.

So to answer your question directly: No, I don't think you're wildly overpriced. I think the Tikka is fair, the bare Echelons are fair, the AR is defensible but I'd expect negotiation, and the COA package is high. But I also don't think it's fair to call buyers lowballers based on what you think their stuff should be worth while expecting them to recognize every dollar of value in yours.

Alright point out any of these echelon coa , tikka tac a1 or the bcm / lwrc being sold less than what im asking for on here even by a dollar and ill give you the firearm

So far I've found this echelon coa slide for $900 https://caguns.net/classifieds/echelon-4-5-coa-complete-slide.51402/

an lwrc lower for 800 https://caguns.net/classifieds/full-ambi-ar15-lwrc-m6ic-complete-lower-receiver.56838/

tikka 1800 no scope but has a chassis is .308 which not many people are after 308 in a bolt https://caguns.net/classifieds/left-hand-tikka-tac-a1-modified-308.57075/

Ignoring someone that lowballs you less than half asking price or whatever ridiculous price I think is ok

When someone has a gun for like $900 and you offer $750 as a starting point of negotiation I feel like it's rude to ignore but oh well. The art of negotiating is lost on many. A lot of guns on here have objectively sky high asking prices as well and sit for a long time yet you can't even make a decent offer
EXACTLY, let's haggle and work towards something we can both agree on.

when they ignore more I bump it up a bit, if they come back with "FIRM" price I do leave it alone. I know what I am willing to pay for it and I will NOT bug you to the point you get pissed. I can accept I am not getting for what I want w/o being an ass about it.

Based, as usual

Haggling, negotiation, lowballing, price gouging, etc. have all been around for thousands of years--literally. I imagine complaints about these practices have been around for about as long. Instead of treating them as some kind of offensive behavior, it's more beneficial to learn how to make them work in your favor.

Dude nobody is saying that you have priced your firearms too high….people just might not value them the way you do or maybe they aren’t exactly looking for them. They have only been posted for a day or a couple days, you can close your ads and repost them in a week and maybe attract new viewers. I had an AR build I had about 1200 dollars or so in it. Good parts and optic but not my favorite and didn’t get used. I posted it for 1000 and open for trades. I got offers of 600, 700 and one at 750. I didn’t want to take any of those at the time as I wasn’t pressing for cash or anything. I had recently just got a mini 14 and liked it and also have been into AK-47’s. I noticed a mini 30 with a scope rings and other attachments, and I reached out to the owner who was also selling or looking for trade and we ended up making a trade that worked for both of us. It’s just part of the game.

I looked. The problem with your challenge is that there aren't enough comparable listings on CAguns to establish anything.
The $900 Echelon COA slide you cited has been sitting unsold since June 27, the BCM/LWRC combination is unusual enough that there are essentially no direct comps, and the closest Tikka comp is a 6.5 TAC A1 marked sold at $1,500, but it's right-handed.

None of that establishes that your prices are bad — but it also doesn't establish market value by pointing to other people's unsold asking prices.

I had a guy on here agree to meet for a pistol with the agreed price, got to the ffl and then offers me $200 less. I told him fck no and hope he didnt just waste my time. He said he wanted to give it a shot and bought it for original agreed price.

At that point that's really bad form to offer less than the agreed price UNLESS there is something wrong with the firearm that wasn't disclosed in the pictures or description.

There wasnt anything wrong with it. I sent him plenty of pictures before and he checked it out outside before we walked inside. He offered me less once inside at the counter. Ahole move in my book.

As with most things, cheaper stuff is easier to sell because its CHEAPER. Makes sense right? When talking guns $300-$400 is cheap. There are a lot of guns at or above $1000 in the marketplace. Most people browsing the marketplace are looking for DEALS. As defined as a gun that is being offered at firesale price because it is USED. Even if it was never fired its still a USED gun. Go figure right? These people looking for deals probably dont NEED another gun let alone one that is $1000 or more. It would be smarter to just invest that money in an index fund since guns are a DEPRECIABLE asset, especially when USED. So the point is if you are trying to sell a gun hoping to get $1000 or more because thats what it is "worth" just be mindful that you are going to have a harder time finding a buyer because there are less people willing to spend that much on a USED gun, unless its a really, really, really, cannot pass up, take my money, amazing deal on a gun they have been kind of wanting forever but were never that motivated to buy unless it was such a great deal they simply could not pass up. Hint, hint, PRICE is the key factor here and there arent that many deals like this in the marketplace. Indeed, deals are rare. And who controls the price? Well the seller does since the buyer isnt selling themselves the gun. So people can sell their guns IF they are willing to accept a realistic SELLING price, not what they think its "worth".

This is really linear thinking. A gun is barely broken in until several hundred rounds are put through it, used and taken care of means you did that for me. Used means no tax, potential upgrades, sometimes off roster access. Not a linear decision criteria at all.

I look for value, not "cheap". And while some guns depreciate, many don't. I bought an Benneli M4 in 2020 for $1,000 and sold it earlier this year for $2,400. Every gun I have sold used, was sold for more than I paid for it. If I see something that is taken care of and has something I am looking for, I'm not beating the seller up because its used, I'm landing on a fair price and making sure used doesn't mean 'abused'. Every buyer I have sold to, has had the same approach; to me, the classified are top shelf. It's much more community than an EBay style of buying.

Your detailed description of market dynamics can account for your logic, but its not universal.

With the dollar losing its value rapidly everyone wants everything cheaper even if it’s already cheap. Thats why a lot of states are starting to use Gold and Silver as legal tender and private businesses as well.

The way i see it, if you cant afford it, dont even bother looking at it or contacting the seller with some crazy lowball price.
Kind of hard to not look at something when the whole point of the classifieds section is to get visibility. So people are supposed to look away or avert their gaze when they are scrolling through the listings? LOL. Lowballers are going to lowball. Thats just a fact of life. People need to put their big boy pants on and ignore them instead of getting offended or butthurt. And a lot of sellers are completely delusional so they are instigating the lowballers. Most lowballers are just trolls and not even serious if you even accepted their offer. Sellers with rediculous asking prices just invite trolls/lowballers. Trolling/lowballing has been going on since the birth of the internet. Simply ignore them.

Its not delusion if thats where the market has the pistols worth.

For me, I just cannot stand the blatant low ballers who offer you half of price and when you tell them no they keep acting like they’re doing you a favor.

I feel like I have “Battered Low Balling” syndrome sometimes. No means no Bill Cosby!

Yeah its annoying. The best thing to do is not respond. Leave them stewing. I often post a disclaimer at the top of my ads saying lowballers will be ignored. So people know if I dont respond to them.
