This is why i usually just consign

I was guilty of this. Had posted a lower for too much… ended up lowering the price then pretty quickly made a deal when I was back on Earth.

Sunk cost fallacy. But cash now is better than cash never.
Common scenario with pistol lowers where sellers come in from out of state after hearing tales of huge profits to be made in California. I've had conversations with more than one high-priced seller about what is realistic which included a standing offer. More times than not they come back to me after a week or two with an acceptance of my offer. (which I then turn around and renege on immediately, followed by a lowball! - Jk. 🤣)

You could just say no….AR15 builds are one of the hardest things to sell here even with good parts. Know the number you want from your firearm post what you feel you can get and just stick to your gut. Might get what you want or if you’re motivated to sell might accept a reasonable offer if it makes sense 🤷🏻‍♂️. I feel it’s better than taking a 25% cut right off the bat. You gotta remember people browse this site everyday just scanning for things that catch their eye, they don’t necessarily “need” that firearm so they shoot an offer. Maybe you don’t have a glock and really wanted one before the ban and already have multiple AR15 builds. Instead of you spending more cash you trade equity you have that you no longer want.

Probably could have made 1300$ for selling those offered AR parts off gafs and still have a lwrc lower left over.

Bcm upper with bcm parts, 600.
B5 furniture 60.
Geissele trigger 120.
Holosun drs nv 600+.
About 1300 after shipping fees and lwrc lower left for a g19.4? All day every day.

As I got older, I started using auctions like Mt McCoy in Simi Valley:

My items get national exposure, and if a local buyer wants what’s listed and wins the item, they can do the DROS in Simi Valley, or have the item shipped to their LGS.

What’s nice is I can list off-roster items and they handle it like a consignment PPT at their location, so local CA buyers have a shot at them.

The best part for me: ZERO hassle with low-balls, flakes, shipping, driving to PPT’s, etc. I just drop them off (or they will pickup if you’re selling more than a few). They take care of everything.

15-45 days or so later, I get a check for the proceeds. Easy-peasy. Well worth their consignment fee

Also, I am constantly shocked at what people are willing to pay. Rifles that I paid low-hundreds for, that I might’ve asked high-hundreds for here, go for low-thousands. It’s wild. I think the auction attracts a different buyer. They know what they want, have the cash, and will pay whatever the market rate is to get what they want. I’ve been that way on some auctions I’ve won. I’ll lock in and my mindset is, “I’m getting this item” and will just keep bidding until I win.

Lowball buyers are annoying, but there’s another side to this:

We have plenty of sellers with ridiculous asking prices too, sometimes apparently expecting to recover every dollar they put into a gun. Guns aren't magically exempt from depreciation. Nobody buys a new car, drives it for a year, adds $5,000 in wheels and accessories, and expects the next owner to reimburse them for the car plus every dollar they spent modifying it. Yet we see that mentality with guns all the time. Accessories and modifications are usually even worse—a $500 optic, $300 trigger and $200 worth of other parts don't automatically add $1,000 to the used value, and often they're worth considerably less installed than they would be sold separately.

Off-roster guns in particular seem to bring out the worst of it. Yes, scarcity can justify a premium in California, but “off roster” doesn't automatically mean whatever number the seller decides to put on it.

Offering $600 on a fairly priced $1,000 gun is ridiculous, but asking $4,500 for something realistically worth $2,500 and hoping somebody who doesn't know better will bite is the other side of the same coin. Buyers are free to make offers, sellers are free to say no, and ultimately the market decides.

So yeah, offering $600 on a fairly priced $1,000 gun is ridiculous. But asking $4,500 for something realistically worth $2,500 and hoping somebody who doesn't know better will bite is the other side of the same coin.

Buyers are free to make offers, sellers are free to say no, and ultimately the market decides. A ridiculous offer takes about three seconds to decline or ignore.

(And if the alternative is consignment, where you're often giving up 20–30% of the selling price anyway, not to mention the mandatory waiting period before the gun can even be sold, why not list it here at a realistic price and give a fellow member a decent deal while still putting more money in your own pocket?)

I think there is an entire generation that does not understand that. Growing up working on classic cars you quickly learn that everything you’re doing is losing money and time. Every none factory part knocks a little more off the car as you get further from stock and more custom. Gun people that are not car people or the younger ones don’t seem to know that yet. Unless you magically put every custom part on the person wanted they have to spend money undoing everything you did. Take all that 💩 off and sell it seperate.

Metal mags get 50% or less of retail because they have to be re sprung.

Plastic mags 35% depending on body/feed limp condition.

Extra grips depends on who made them buck Lok/VZ are worth a bit (to me)

Holsters are free / add no value (to me)

If it’s been modified just start knocking money off for the cost of factory parts I have to track down.

All that being said. Here in CA I throw 10-15% of value back on it as it does avoid the retardedly high taxes and giving that money to a fellow gun owner vs the state is fine. it’s also a pain in ass here, in texas I was swapping firearms constantly, mainly trading with buddies at weekend get togethers. Hell we had a 7 way trade once 5 guns, a scope, and an old SxS we all juggled with cash +/-. I can’t ever see that even being possible in this state.

Depends where you sell it. Some metal mags may be less, but if they are still good condition, you can get most of your money back. AK surplus steel mags? You going to get alot more than you may have put into it pre-russia ban.

Some people don't have a need to trade complete ARs, maybe just parts swapping. In CA, you can still do that. Parts swapping as long as it is not serial #'ed dros'd part. Trading other guns, yea, its a hassle, but still can be done.

A lot of cag members are users on gafs. Some with high triple digit feedbacks. Stick to ca market only, and you'll be a disgruntled gunowner.

I’ll take your word on that. I don’t even look at AR’s or AK’s wife, kids, and I have what we wanted long ago. Pistols and high end bolt guns are all I look at.

Dont know about or care about that entire section of the market. It’s like shotguns to me, they are tupperware. If it breaks go buy a new one but other wise I don’t care. My issued A2 was fine and my M4 was cool, but i’m not fighting wars and mag dumping into trash lost its allure a long long time ago.

For parts i’ll just keep them, trading is all i’m really interested in. But having to go to an FFL and deal with all that 💩 is annoying, I would rather just swap guns, shake hands, and go about my day.

it’s a good booster for pistol AR’s that need a little more omph to cycle. Had one a long time ago it was funny as hell, but the name flaming pig and the little logo should let everyone know. This is a flash enhancer, not hider. You could see the fireballs in bright sun at high noon when you ran one.
Interesting. You don't look at ARs you say? Or you just don't care?

Going to a FFL to trade parts is like raising your hand in your own home to ask permission to use the restroom. Swapping guns, yes, but parts? Why?

If you put up off-rosters for consignment where the vendor advertises across the nation, don't expect off-roster prices as roster only exists in CA.
Right, for auctions that won’t PPT or where the seller simply sold the off-roster to the auction house and they can’t PPT.

But every time I’ve listed an off-roster at auction, because I don’t sell to the auction house, it’s treated as a PPT. It always goes to a CA buyer and I get top-dollar.

Don’t look at or care about AR/AK’s really. I’ll click in the ad, but i’m not going to buy anymore. I went through all the bullpups on the market in TX trying to get that itch going again but it’s just not there anymore. At some point I probably had 20 different AR’s they all end up feeling similar enough that I don’t care. I’ve also always thought AK’s were dog 💩 in the ergo’s department and 7.62x39 / 5.45 prices being what they are I have zero interest in them. Can’t have any of the fun night vision / thermal 💩 here from what I understand so AR’s are for fun? I’ll save the money on ammo and shoot 9mm.

If the world ends i’m F-ed in about 30 days without meds coming in sooooooo I don’t larp like i’m going to be some homestead hero. What I have now will more than outlast my meds. Adult kids are in TN and the little one isn’t shooting yet.

but what if I like announcing i’m gonna 💩?

after a certain point you end up becoming numb to lowballers.

i always offer a cheaper alternative

i truly believe offers are a reflection of a persons budget or financial standing. Everyone is different so i respect that.

but if someone comes trying to disrespect me, i can bounce it back too.

in your case, i would have just sent a link to a PSA Rifle Kit lol. because clearly thats all the budget hes got.

Guns, Cars, Motorcycles, Boats, Furniture, nearly everything on every for sale sight gets low ballers AND sellers that want top dollar. It's been that way WAY WAY before the internet. Some of you "Youts" won't remember in the old days we had garage sales. Same was true then. Selling rims and tires for $200 and someone asks will you take $25. Lol

I do find it interesting that Guns seem to trigger (I know I know) a more visceral response from both sellers and buyers. Hell there is a thread on the "L" sight from someone complaining about the "Thumbs Down" emoji people are leaving on his ads. Lol

Having sold more than 2 dozen via PPTs and ads, I just don't respond to low ballers. If some one responds with a single PM "will you take half" they get no response. Same for items I sell on FB or other. If someone responds with questions about the item then offers 75-80% of my asking price, I will counter.

look man the date code on the tires if from 10 years ago, i’m going to have to swap them out anyways. 😂

Got two gun here for sale, either sells I would lose $300 on one, and closer to $500 or more on the other and people still low ball. Both like new, low round count.

I get making an offer when someone is kinda high on their listing, but it gets ridiculous when you price items fairly that you just do not want to keep.

But, atleast you can “Ignore” button the worst offenders.

Echelon isn’t compatible with any generation Glock parts if that’s what you mean.

However the Ruger RXM is fully modular based off gen 3 and is definitely a better buy than gen 4 Glocks.

Also, the Shadow Systems MR/XR920 is based off gen 4 Glock AND accepts G45/47.5 slides.
a SS is better than Glock or Echelon

IMHO, consigning is lowballing yourself from the start. Take your ideal selling price and right off the bat subtract 20% in taxes to make it appealing to buyers. Thats 20% neither you nor the buyer get to keep. Straight up retarded. Then subtract the consignment fee or percentage: 15-20%. That's 35-40% you don't get to keep = retarded. Why be upset with lowballers offering half what you are asking when consignment is essentially the same deal? Consignment makes zero sense unless you're a clueless old lady or adult child trying to get rid of an unwanted inheretance as quick as possible short of surrendering it at the police station.

or you hate 99% of the general public and a 20~30% hit is worth not dealing with any of them. convenience is worth a certain amount of money for me. rarely do it, but there are times I would without a doubt.
