Stock Market & Economy is getting wrecked

Let’s entertain this. This is the list of topics in Casual Corner. Let’s compare with Calguns OT topics. Why don’t you go ahead and screen shot what the topic list looks like and bring it back here. Then we can have a laugh together. 🙂

I would screenshot but I can never reach the site and don’t spend time there anymore. Maybe it is the same.
Here's a screenshot. If not for anything else but to show it works.
But thread titles don't show the whole picture. You have a thread about the stock market that has political slants...

I still think your casual corner is on its way to an OT.

thats fine that you think it’s on its way to OT. You have the right to be wrong. You’re absolutely right that it doesn’t show the whole picture.

We’ve discussed this before, you seem to miss that I’m ok with a version OT as long it doesnt have some members like CGN who are allowed to disrespect other members in a very direct and derogatory way and celebrated. That can stay there.

I think it’s like saying we’re on our way to being like CGN but we’re not broken. We’ve learned from their mistakes. I’m glad you’re able to visit in one of the windows it’s available. I think you’ll find in time things will continue to grow here some things will look the same but the vibe is what’s different. That’s my goal as an operator/developer. I’m still not certain what the future holds for CGN.

There’s several posts like this for your reference. Please use the search button to discover other posts on the creation of these subforums.

It’s hard for me to think how this is good for the economy. In the last month I’ve watched my portfolio tank pretty hard, while I see a bunch of folks cheering for this. Help me understand the timeline how this is good for America?

Have you made money or lost and if you support this, when do you think things will turn positive? Prices are heading higher for several things.

I sold basically all my IRA cause it was 5% below the high. I bought back in again when it went lower and then we dipped again. I'm leaving my trailing stop in place and if it triggers again I'm pulling out till I see some sign of volume return.

There is a noticeable difference in the "political" discussion here vs CGN.

Posts in disagreement to here read more like "I don't agree with you, "x" has benefitted me and here's how"

While CGN is more "if you didn't agree with "x" you must love having a large dark colored sex toy in your anus"

It's also pretty amusing to see how far-right wingers love saying "F- your feelings" and hate "safe spaces", yet get super twitchy when faced with any disagreement and have created an impregnable safe space of their own.

Please be respectful of their feelings during this difficult time where the guy they're in love with who promised trade wars wrecks their 401k right after they retired.

To be fair if the other lady got elected, we would've been taxed into oblivion. I'm doing what I can now to restructure this site because of the crazy laws here that Newsom implemented. I had to pay my CPA quite a bit just for tax strategy to set this up and learn the game since it's getting worse and worse.

Best case scenario now is to try to get into the protected tax brackets with higher discounts where the people that make the most pay the lowest %. That's the plan right now. I'm a bit old school though, cut spending, create value, increase productivity and hope for the best. I think a lot of companies got carried away with how much they charge on top of the crazy inflation.

Here I try to keep it affordable so people here keep the majority of what they sell and can decide offer a donation here or membership to help support the site. The big sites charge 4x+ and require membership for what we do and you get fewer features. For the most part the features will stay the same until i have to pay more for services. Some might be adjusted in the future but just with higher limits.

What I like about ranges is that its still mostly affordable the fees aren't crazy and that's something I want to keep. I think the Costco model is for me, COST is a good buy and is on my radar.

I ain't retiring for another 20 years so this particular storm isn't gonna kill me. I remember when this happened to my dad back in 2008/9. That was a lot worse.

Yeah, but we're only 45 days in, this BS is just beginning...
Keep calm. Focus on what you can control, like your expenses, gaining education, or skills to find a stable "recession" proof job/career. I'm not sure how old you are but I remember very clearly the great recession in 2009. Now that was a recession caused by some serious structural issues. Everything that is going on right now is various entities throwing fits and acting passive-aggressive. It will settle down. As long as energy prices are stable we will be all right.

Trump is testing the boundaries, seeing what kind of deals he can get. If things go south too far too fast he will back down. As hair-brained as he behaves sometimes, he does have some good points. Could he have gone about it better? Sure. But that isn't his style and so far no one else has even tried so we kind of have to settle for what we can get. However, what he is allowing Musk to do to the Federal Government is seriously disturbing but they'll reach a point where they'll have to stop as it becomes clear how counterproductive it is.

He's not allowing Musk to do it, he directed him to. It's chapter 2 of Mandate for Leadership, the project 2025 playbook. It says specifically that they will gut federal agencies of anyone standing in the way of the executive branch i.e. consolidated power with the president. How it has worked for a hundred years is the legislature passes a bill that creates an agency like EPA and passes a law like NEPA, that goes to the relevant agency where the agency promulgates regulations with input from scientists, public and stakeholders etc. What they want instead is for every single regulatory interpretation to run through the executive office per Trumps executive order from February 19. Why this is fundamentally counter to a functioning democracy is that any new president can negate any legislative action and change or block the implementation of things passed by congress. If you are on the winning side you feel like this is good but would you like a president to go the other direction and just say "sorry no more cars bro". If you like living in a world where you get treated like an Amazon employee then you should be happy because worker protections governing safety and overtime are about to be gutted. California has it's own OSHA and pay rules so it doesn't matter on that point as it only applies to the 💩ty red states that rely on federal osha and minimum wage and overtime rules, but we need to worry about the fact that 48% of the state is owned and managed by the federal government and they just fired a good number of the workers that normally do fuel reduction work in the summer. I've done a few fuel reduction plans alongside Forest Service workers and they were already extremely overstaffed, our work was actually paid by the state instead. And also F- you if you like hiking/hunting/etc because they fired ALL of the trail maintenance crews.

So when Canada imposes insane tariffs on us for years, no one cares (tons of them!). When Canada basically uses us for protection so our military spending is high and theirs is nothing, no one cares. When Europe wants us to pay for their defense and they tariff the hell out of us no one says anything. We finally have someone who wants to change all that and now suddenly there is a thread full of democrats here talking crap to "right wingers?" If democrats had their way NONE OF US would be allowed to buy any guns -which we need for freedom, not hunting- so why are you on a gun board not supporting Trump? Its ok if you disagree with his handling of certain things but crap talking & bringing up fake news project 2025 is just media talking points.
Its been 2 months, YES there is going to be turbulence but give him time- it takes time to reverse all the poison in the system.
How are we going to get out of 40 trillion debt, it will take a massive change.
Going to say democrats are not against guns, look at whats going on in Colorado, literally going to ban all guns with detachable magazines...

Have you ever been to a college campus (pick ANY) see what kind of "safe spaces" and whatnot is going on, then tell me who is really against feelings and safe spaces. You consider someone replying to you as getting twitchy about safe spaces? This doesnt make sense considering the other side has to pet animals to calm down, quite a disease there.

Again, you like guns right?? I mean, who are you voting for??

it only applies to the 💩ty red states

💩ty red states???? Am I on another planet? You do realize we are probably going to get a new law saying we can't even defend yourselves inside your home but have to run away and let the robbers have at it (because the police do not come for hours) Yea there is alot 💩ty about every state but damn, we have lost half of our freedom in this state, everyone who actually works for a living only stays because of the weather

You're the first person replying to me. You seem pretty agitated. I've been to college campuses and the echo chambers that people who work in gun stores set up are very similar. If you weren't so easily offended you might have noticed that I'm not saying the right is worse than the left... but that the extremists on both ends act like each other but don't even know it.

I love guns and shoot over a thousand rounds a month. I've never voted for a Democrat in my life. It makes me sad when so-called conservatives act like far-left leaning loonies.

If you notice you didn’t really say anything about the effect on your holdings or your plan to ride turbulence which is the point of the post. Moreso than make it a Trump thing.

I can tell you didn’t read anything about project 2025, or you’d recognize what’s happened in the last month and half is following the 180 day plan. Read it, his own staff wrote it.

Ultimately you’re missing the meat from the potatoes. Trump is in office many people lost 20%+ of their holdings, even Elon needing Trump to buy a Tesla, stocks so bad. It’s worthy of a discussion if eggs going up a $1 is.

You’re talking about the player, when we’re trying to talk about the game.

Incidentally AB1333 doesn't apply in your home it's for public spaces. I don't agree with it but castle doctrine still would apply if it passes.

That’s a good point, AB1333 doesn’t amend Penal Code 198.5, which codifies the Castle Doctrine. It does however change the law for self-defense and, as I interpret it, narrows the circumstances in which self-defense or defense of others applies. Given the irrational zeal and poor judgment that some gun owners/possessors have, I can see why politicians would want to impose these limitations. Let’s be honest, we all know someone who talks a big game about brandishing in response to illegal conduct that falls far short of a threat to life or limb. Folks like that make the rest of us gun owners look bad and cause laws like this to be proposed. That said, I still think changing the law in this way is potentially disastrous and not in the interest of public safety.

You’re talking about the player, when we’re trying to talk about the game.

If worrying about your holdings in a roulette gambling pyramid scheme is all you’re worried about, then I think that highlights the problem. The stock market for the most part goes up and down on baseless optimism and pessimism. That’s it. And you hope to roll the dice well and not be left holding the bag when the bottom falls out of whatever stock you invested in.

For years our products have had tariffs levied against them, while we levied none/little. Now countries are outraged we are doing the same?

You’ve got Ukraine, and most mouth breathing democrats, thinking that Ukraine is entitled to our support. Endless war with no end goal? Sure, we’re great at that. But now it’s the end of the road and we won’t have any more of those.

The only issue is that we’ve let things get too out of hand for too long. Whether it’s illegal immigration from the south, or China shipping a bunch of cheap junk to the US and undercutting US products, or random countries thinking we owe them something as long as they say they’re fighting for “democracy”, you pick. To right the ship, there may need to be some pain. But to think we could just keep things going as is was when Biden was in office, which is exactly what Kamala would have done, that’s just setting us up for a real disaster. Sure the stock market might be higher now, but no real problems would have been solved. And all that unrealized gain? It could have been gone in an instant anyways when people realized that the house of cards it too high and has to fall apart at some point.

the thing is those issues have underlying motivations that won't be solved in this way. People immigrate here because we hire them. I don't see camps of Central Americans without jobs anywhere I see them being hired by every industry from meat packing to restaurants to construction you name it. The raging right wingers happily hire these guys, I have worked in all these industries growing up and it's always been MOSTLY undocumented people. And many don't even want citizenship because they go home and aren't planning on retiring here. China also makes most of our stuff because we literally ask them to. They aren't insidiously marketing it in place of us made goods, WE do that. Americans are very comfortable and they would rather sell trinkets than work 12 hour days making them, I promise you. Go visit any Made In USA factories and you will see it's full of immigrants because Americans don't build a goddamn thing anymore and they don't want to. Look at the 80k homeless people in Ca and see that Americans would rather do drugs and sleep outside than do the work that people sneak into another country to do. I don't know what the answer is long term but none of these things seem like solutions, especially whining about immigrants because they quite simply aren't the problem. Like where do you live in California where you are so far removed from any industry where you arrive at immigrants being "the problem"? It's so naive. There's a really good butcher in the central valley that's been full of the owners Trump paraphernalia and right wing crap, and there's not a single person born in America working there. The hypocrisy is astounding. Nobody puts their money where their mouth is.
