Shield X vs BG 2.0?

I ended up trading a slightly used PX4 for a brand new Shield X. Probably my first time getting a gun without ever having shot it lol. Will see how I like it when it's out of jail. Probably my biggest fear is how it'll conceal relative to my G19. Hoping the thinner profile can make it a brain-dead concealment option.


Otherwise I might trade it for a BG 2.0

My ShieldX was great out of the box, great to shoot. The BG 2.0 is smoothing out now that I have about 500 rounds through it, I had my doubts first couple of range visits but that seems to be common and something that can be overcome.

I had the same experience with both. The Shield X has been 100% reliable since the first round. BG 2.0 had a couple glitches in its first 50 rounds, it’s smoothed out and been reliable ever since. They both were a little dirty out of the box, they both run better the more they are used.

Sight alignment, no, but I put the Viridian dot in it pretty quickly and got it zeroed so accuracy was dialed in (kinda wish I’d gotten the Gideon Pebble, but oh well). BG did not like Federal FMJ 95 grain at first but would go thru Federal Train and Protect 85 grain without issue. Not sure why. Last trip to the range I went thru a box of each and had one malfunction that looked to be from a burr on the round - i forget which box it came from but everything else was fine.

The BG shot left of POA. I scooted the front sight a bit left and it’s better.

Soak with kroil for a few days before trying to move the sights. I lightly filed/sanded smooth a screwdriver that was the right size and used a small carpenter’s hammer. My sight pusher wouldn’t get a useable position so I went kinda caveman. One light swing of the hammer moved the sight enough to call it good.

That’s awesome. You will love the Shield X. It’s one of my favorite guns to shoot (even more than my MR 920). My main issue is concealing it. My hip bone to hip bone distance is 13-14 inches. I can’t seem to find a way to keep the bottom of the grip from poking my shirt.

Imma try some more fine tuning to see if I can consistently hide it. My MR 920 isn’t an issue because I wear that one OWB when fishing/backpacking with super baggy camping clothing over it.

If you have hips wider than mine even by 1-2 inches you should be able to conceal it pretty easily. It is a very thin gun.

And like all my guns the Shield X shoots better after you get a few hundred rounds through it.

Alrighty folks. Picked up my Shield X today and immediately booked it to Reed's to send some rounds. Probably shot about 100-150 rounds (irons only).

Concealment:
I ordered some random holster off Amazon for its easy return policy. The gun really disappeared on me even though I was wearing a very solid dri fit shirt. I was surprised at how the thinness helped out with the concealment relative to my G19.

Drill:
- Single shot return most of the time
- Threw in a couple doubles when RSO's weren't around

Ammo:
- Federal HST JHP
- Blazer FMJ
- Whatever the Sig FMJ and JHP are called (just had them lying around)

Gun Performance:
No failures. Everything performed as expected. No comment on the safety tab as I forgot to function check it with live ammo.

My Performance:
A bit lackluster with my target focus on irons. It took me a while to realize, but I think(?) the stock irons require a combat hold, whereas I'm generally used to a center hold. Slight adjustments and I think I was shooting fine afterward. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong and just say that I suck lol.

My Opinions:
As a standalone gun by itself it shoots fine. I don't have much experience with micro-compacts (or slimline models for that matter), so take whatever I say with a grain of salt. It definitely kicks a bit and I had some discomfort in my firing hand wrist after some time. Trigger guard was also agitating my firing hand middle finger (Glock knuckle?).

It's not a fair comparison, but I was shooting my full size PDP with a dot on it to also work input and trigger control. Crazy night and day difference in experience when shooting them side by side.

Overall:
It does the job. Definitely not the most enjoyable experience for me, but it's purely meant for summer carry or when I don't want to think about how to dress around my gun as much. Realistically, I think most of my live fire training will center around doubles and single shot returns for 100 rounds per session. Everything else (drawing, target transitions, etc.) would be through dry fire as it just won't be fun enough for me to want to send 400-500 rounds in a session like with my PDP.

Will see how my next couple range trips go. If it works well enough, I'll likely add it to my CCW upon renewal and get rid of the G19.

My current CCW is just my G19. I had a P-01 and G26 on my permit as well but got rid of them. Now I have G19, PDP, and Shield X. Too lazy to deal with the permit modifications and will just add them upon renewal next year.

TBH, I prefer the X, probably because I feel like I can hold onto it better. On a completely different note. I just picked up a P365 AXG Luxe, and that thing is like a .22. It not as tidy and tiny as the BG, of course, but it’s really nice. It also was smooth and easy to use straight out of the box - no break in, no fuss with ammo that I had with me. I can see that being a keeper for an older and wiser carry down the road.

The P365? Yeah, it’s .380ACP and has a compensator (compensated? Where are my grammar police?), super soft. The BG isn’t snappy to me either, but I feel like the X has a good balance of recoil management and comfort to shoot for me.

Didn't realize your P365 was in 380. Makes much more sense now.

I never shot the BG. Only held it in a gun store side by side with an X. I was trying really hard to not go into the 380 realm just to keep ammo consistent.

Yeah, I hear ya on that. I find that the .380 is pretty dirty too. BG is easy to shoot, getting better as time goes by and more rounds through. X was just super pleasant out of the box with no issues. I had planned to replace my G19 on my CCW with the X, and add the BG for versatility.

the p365 luxe? That thing is almost double the weight of the BG 2.0 so it for sure shoots nicer/softer. But, at that weight it's encroaching on the weight of a normal compact 9mm pistol, so it's kind of a wash.

Totally. I’m not putting it in carry rotation now, but will keep it around for when the arthritis in my knees makes its way to my hands.
