how long did y'all live scan take? took my live scan last friday 23 August. still says pending on my end. if it goes well i am just waiting for my qualifications. on sept 28.

I think my live scan was completed within a week, BUT it took the sheriffs office a whole ass month to send me the go ahead for ccw training/qualification.

Just uploaded my training cert, and paid the fee a couple of days ago. Was approved, but now they are just calling my references, and looks like they took back the approval? This happen to anyone else?

How'd they take back the approval? Like the training cert was rescinded some how?

My CA and FBI cleared immediately. The Firearms cleared in one week

Well good news. I got cleared and pickup is early next week right after Labor Day. Basically, I had been approved, permitium was all green, but I guess they waited til the last minute to call my references for whatever reason. Guess they forgot. I was able to call all my references and tell them to pick up the damn phone when they get a call. Just an FYI for anyone else.

Initial interview at SCCSO completed and is good.
Your Psych test and evaluation are good.
Your 3 livescan categories say passed,
All you need now is the, "notice to take your classes" from SCCSO
Can you take your class and range training before your notice to proceed is issued? (assuming that it will be)

I understand there is a risk of wasted training costs if your references or something else would go wrong and you are disqualified, but given that everything goes okay, it seems to me that the class and range qualification do not have to be done sequentially after the receipt of the notice. If you are trained a few days before the notice, is the training still good?

Anybody have any experience or opinion?

Supposedly you could, but if they take forever to tell you to do the training, then it may expire. It’s your money anyways.

You are right - They give you 90 days from notice of Livescan approval to complete your training / qualification. If your completion date was outside of this window it is probably invalid.

I did a variation. I scheduled farther out thinking my Livescan would and notice would take longer than they did. I took the online 12 hour training and I was lucky enough to be able to move my qualification up to 9/28. See you there!

Pick up was super quick just fingerprint and sign, no photo required at pickup.

What was the process that you went through with this? Did you take a qualification class prior to submitting the change request? How long from when you filed for the modification to the approval and pickup?

I did my 4 hour qual. today with Saber Tactics also. The session was excellent and the teaching very well done. I also liked the 12 hours of online classroom material. It let me progress at my own pace at any time and you can go back and review parts you want more detail on. I did this several times. I liked the "use of force" and holster/equipment sessions the best. I have a CCW in another state and still learned a lot of stuff from both the 12 hour and the qualification session. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give these guys an 11.

They said they will email it Tuesday. We sign, scan, and upload to our Permitium account.

Jesus take the wheel. It was maybe $350 all said and done when I got mine through Sac Co. Sheriff. Up where I’m at now, it was $150 total for the enhanced permit including training and printing.

When I started I really did not have a good grasp of the sequence of events - For those just beginning this might be helpful. The cost is actually around $1400 total including psych eval, Livescan and trainning

The Basic Sequence of Events:

1) Sign up on Permitium website for Santa Clara County Sheriff

2) Check back frequently for closer available interview dates

3) In person interview at Sheriff Dept.

4) Written Psych tests

5) Online psych interview

6) Livescan finger printing

7) 16 hours of class and range training. You have choice of several approved trainers

8) Upload certificate and signed proficiency document

Here is my timeline with some details.

I did not want to post my timeline events in case I failed on the qualification or something happened along the way.

I wanted to make sure everything was in the bag before I spoke on my behalf.

Time Table for CCW Application/Experience:

• Applied for CCW 11 October 2023 - $72.33
• 10 months of waiting which seemed forever but if you don't think about it, time will go by fast

Got the Appointment 8 August 2024 at 10AM with SCC Sheriff Captain *really nice person*

• Thursday 8 August got email from LEPs for Psych Testing (got the email as I was driving home and immediately signed up) $150

• Monday 12 August Psych Test 700+ Questions
• Monday 12 August after test was done was able to secure time slot for Psych Eval (received the email around 1300-1400)

• Thursday 15 August Psych Interview
• Friday 23 August got email from Sheriff for my live scan
• Friday 23 August went to USPS walk in and got my finger printed $130

DOJ Background Time Line

• CA- 09/03/24
• FBI- 08/23/24
• FireArms- 09/05/24

Thursday 12 September SCC received the documents from DOJ

Thursday 12 September SCC emailed me that CCW Application has been approved and contingent completion required training

Monday 26 August - Signed up Saber Tactics to do my 16 hour training Cost: $400
Friday 30 August - Saber Tactics informed me that I am confirmed Saturday 28 September for my in person qualification

Total so far is: $751.33 and range fee +40 = 791.33

1 week wait for the qualification with SaberTactics.

Saturday 28 September

• Range Quali with Saber with Nick and 3 other staff
• Very straight forward and you get to meet people
• HIGHLY RECOMMEND SABER these guys are studs at what they do

Tuesday 1 October

• Received email from Saber attached with my Qualification and CCW Certificate
• Uploaded right away to my SCSO
• Got Text Message from SCSO stating my CCW App has been approved
• Signed into my SCSO for my final payment which is $271.96
• In total I have spent $751.33 + $271.96 = $1,063.29 (not including ammo which I bought from Bass Pro. Bought 100 rounds each firearm I planned to carry)

Now - Waiting for Santa Clara Sheriff to give me that call to pick up my CCW permit

Will update for the last time table of how long/when I get that call from Santa Clara Sheriff.

Hope this brings clarity to anyone that wants an idea.

I think part of the reason why my process is fast is because I stayed on top of my emails and checked my emails thrice a day; along with the actions that needed to be taken, I immediately took action because I simply did not want to wait any longer.



Tip: Always, always, be truthful with what you say. It is ok to pause and think. Both sheriff and psych they have all the answers in front of them.
