CCW Santa Clara County CCW Thread

I went to the sheriffs since they know what you need. My stuff cleared in 6 days for firearms portion.

I ultimately went with a private vendor (postal annex) because the sheriff's office required me to schedule an appointment and it was booked out weeks ahead (if i remember correctly). Not sure if there's any difference with sheriffs vs private vendor to be honest.
 
Follow up: I ended up going to Meridian Live Scan in San Jose. The Sheriff was a couple of weeks out and Meridian was walk in. The woman there was very knowledgeable about CCW and had recent info on timelines, etc. At your scan you will get an ATI number. Be sure to get that number and a copy of your form.
 
Course of fire for Santa Clara County CCW permit.
What is the course of fire requirement for passing the CCW range test? There is a list on the Sheriffs website but it is left over from the old Lauri Smith era.
It would be helpful to know ahead of time to practice. Thanks

Oh yeah, for folks going to private vendors for the live scan - be sure to call in first and ask about when you can go in for the live scan paperwork. At least at my location, there was only one person who knew how to do the live scan paperwork, so I had to plan around them. Like 99% of the time, I'm sure its fine, but there might be a chance that person is on lunch or has the day off when you come in, so it's always good to check.

I think you're referring to this document right?

From what I remember, this was the same course of fire that I did for my CCW

It’s not really that difficult. Practice accuracy at the range with a B8 target and get em all in the black as much as you can at 15yds. If you can do it at 15, you can do it closer.

Practice from compressed ready and shoot 5 times in under 10sec.

Practice your draw at home.

It then all comes together when you’re going to qual.

Easy peasy

How long does the report from Live Scan comes back?

And when it comes back does the Sheriff email you if your good to go?

Also once you received that email from Sheriffs that you passed do they give you a paper for you to show to whoever you want to take class with? Or you just simply sign up at the vendors they have provided?
 
There’s no real timeline. For me it was roughly 2 weeks.

After Livescan clears, they’ll email you saying your application is approved pending training. I’d suggest you sign up for one asap, since this email likely went out to a bunch of people at the same time.

No need to provide the paperwork for who you take the class with. They’re getting paid either way.

Yeah this part sucks. So close yet so far.

I did my Livescan prior to them clearing me to do it, so I just had to send SCSO my Livescan form. You should do that too btw.

It still took 2 weeks from me telling them I cleared it and sent them the form for them to say I can do the training. I would not recommend doing the training prior to getting the green light to. You may end up paying double.
 
Does @Saber Tactics give the CCW Firearms Proficiency form on the same day as the range? I’m really annoyed by my training provider having a week apart for range and class. Then another 7-10 days to “process” your certificate or whatever it is that’s supposed to be submitted once training is done. Should have went saber, but they didn’t have a range day scheduled last weekend…
 
@Jax Paroe Yeah, the qualification are on the same day as the range day. The way Saber Tactic did it (at least when I took it) was most of the course was online, so you could take it at home at your own pace. The online portion will cover all the classroom stuff like scenarios, gear, training etc.

You sign up for a range day as well and you should finish the online course before your range day. On the range day, they had us do basic drills, like drawing from concealment etc. After everyone does the basics, then it's qualification time for everyone. Everyone does their CCW quals for their specific issuing agency.
 
Just uploaded my training cert, and paid the fee a couple of days ago. Was approved, but now they are just calling my references, and looks like they took back the approval? This happen to anyone else?
 
how long did y'all live scan take? took my live scan last friday 23 August. still says pending on my end. if it goes well i am just waiting for my qualifications. on sept 28.
