That's not what "put them behind"- they've intentionally been slow, very slow-walking CCW permits and renewals since Bruen.

I applied to add 2 guns to the CCW a month ago. Still waiting for approval.

I applied for modification last year when my CCW got issued. Took 1 month a 1 week.

Can you have more than three guns on a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s issued CCW? I have three guns on my permit but would like to add one more. Has anyone added a fourth gun or does one of the original three have to “fall off” for a maximum of three?

I just went through it. It was effortless. You don't even need to apply first. (I did apply before booking my training because I didn't know.) Just take the training and qualification and then apply, upload the training certificate and documents. It gets approved the next day. Arrange pickup. Done.

Total time: 3 weeks. 2 weeks is just between the training and the qualification due to the training provider's schedule.

1. Was the application shorter, or did you need to fill out all the entire application again (traffic citations etc)
2. Did you have to list references - I know it was not required when I filled out, so not sure if it's required for renewals now
3. How soon before expiration did you apply?

1. The form is identical to the initial application so I filled everything. But based on how quickly it got approved, I assume it was not scrutinized as carefully as the first application. (FWIW, none of my information changed. i.e. no address change, no new citation.)
2. No reference needed. This is the only reason I paid the super high price to go to the county instead of starting from scratch with my city PD, which is much cheaper.

edit - Ah i see the difference in initial application fees for SCSO vs SJPD. I guess SJPD is having you pay everything up front to deter people? Either way, this is dumb lmao

SJPD Initial App is $1328. Then once approved and issued. Final Payment of $1,062
Total of $2,390 just for CCW for 2 years

Not San Jose but still <$100 renewal fee. Still, I would rather pay a little more than jump through all the hoops again.
