CCW Santa Clara County CCW Thread

I did not want to wait and went to Meridian Live Scan in San Jose. They were 2Xmore costly than the sheriff but also same day instead of 3 weeks and the tech was very familiar with the paperwork. i did livescan at the sheriff's office, took me about 15 minutes, i was late to my appointment but here was no one else there so she didnt' mind.
 
I know most people in this thread are probably still working on getting their initial applications done.... however, for those of us who are now about a year into our 2-year duration with an active CA CCW from SCCSO, how far in advance are people beginning the renewal process? It's a little confusing, because the SCCSO policy states you shall submit the application for renewal no later than 90 days prior to the expiration:

Given all the hoops we must endure (taking another 8 hour course plus range qual) and the inevitable (intentional) slow roll of the bureaucracy to process.... what should we be planning for? 6 months? 9 months? It would be annoying to have our license expire before we can even complete the renewal process.

Renewals are vastly less work than new issuance, it suggests they think they'll get it done in that 90 day window. I wouldn't be so sure and shoot & submit 4 months head, maybe 5. Whoever signs off your range work will have a pretty good idea how far ahead its taking.

Yeah, no way. I thought I read 6 months is when one can start. I was going to stop by the Sheriffs office the other day and ask, but I wasn't able to get there. I just submitted my renewal app. a hair under $500 for the app fee. FFS...
 
my appointment for my interview is coming up in march, I was wondering what do I bring with me to the interview?
 
Not sure what is up but I just received a blank email from Permitium telling me a refund were issued in the subject line. No accompanying email from the SCCSO and the credit card I used doesn't show signs of a refund/. The CC may take a day or so to show up if it indeed wasn't in error. I sent an email off to SCCSO asking about it just now. Not sure how long I will have to wait for any sort of response. I do not see any sort of notice in Permitium either about a refund. My renewal is in August so I have a bit of time to get this sorted if indeed it wasn't in error.
 
Received an email today from Permitium support directing me to SCCSO as expected. I just received an email from SCCO that reads:

Dear Mr. Bombaci,

Thank you for your email. The refund is a correction, due to an overcharge from Permitium.

My credit card now shows a refund pending of $30.87 from Permitium. Not going to lie, I was hoping it were in the hundreds... I was charged $495.25 for the renewal. With the refund, it is now $464.38. I am just about ready to buy the 8 hour course from Saber. Minus the range fee, the running total for my renewal is $711.38. I think the range fee is $30 or $40? I cannot remember.
 
Strange. I don’t think Permitium would collect the range fee and I doubt SCCO would drop the fee. It’s probably gone from a financial drain on the department budget to a minor profit center. The only thing I can think of at this point is that Permitium screwed up on the initial charge?

The range fee is paid to Saber when I buy the training; totally separate. A simple explanation would have been helpful rather than a blank email from Permitium or even the email from SCCSO.

I finally made it down to the SCCSO two weeks ago. I asked the person behind the glass to clarify the time frame for renewals. Of course their first reaction was to tell me to check the Permitium website. I promptly told them that Permitum has nothing to do with the SCCSO policy and I suggested they should probably know this information since they are facing the public in the office. The officer then suggested this information is on the SCCSO website. I fired back with that specific information is NOT on the SCCSO website and if they could show me where it is, I would be grateful since I obviously missed it. They attempted to transfer me (you have to speak through a telephone) to the CCW department that never answered. The officer then told me to email them. Fabulous.

I fired off an email in the parking lot expecting not to hear back for quite some time. To my surprise, they responded maybe three hours later and told me to start my renewal 90 days before expiration. I responded immediately asking about the fact that I just paid over $500 to Permitium and will I be able to let that hang in limbo until the beginning of July (my 90 day clock). I havent heard back as of yet. Funtimes.

Guest parking was full but there was metered street parking close by that was plentiful.

There is no check in, you wait in the general waiting area for the CCW folks to come out to get you.

In my case they were running behind so I was a bit worried they had forgotten about me, but they eventually came out after 20 mins to grab me and the next interviewee.

Interview itself was painless and took only around 15 mins; I would factor in at least an hour in case of any delays.

Received psych testing info the next day, scheduled for 3 weeks time.

"Running behind" is good news- that means they'll speed up the process for those still waiting!
