For anyone wondering how long renewals take, I applied for a renewal on 4/30, got a call from SFPD to answer some questions on 5/6, got the notice to sign up for a renewal course, and my character references got the calls on 5/7. My permit expires in July.

I've had zero contact with them.
I just emailed them about lead time and they told me to take the training and submit proof to continue....
40 something days no contact, until I emailed them about it

Do you get unknown/blocked numbers blocked on your phone? They call from one of those.

I haven't had any calls from unknown or blocked calls. I turned off the filtering for it
I wonder why law enforcement calls from blocked numbers? Do they think its cool? It broadcasts to knowledeable persons that the call is from the cops; most others simply will not answer calls from blocked numbers. If they want to communicate they should use a different approach.
I am glad to see SF finally issuing permits. The timeline of a year plus is unreasonable though.
I see that LA is only giving the police a fraction of the positions they need in favor of funding legal defense for illegal aliens. This is going to impede the timely issuance and renewal of permits. SF has a similar problem; the are not allocating sufficient resources. They will claim they do not have the budget but they never will.
I think anything beyond 90 days probably fails the Bruen test. It is a two-edge sword for the anti-ccw cities because the Supremes might find their fortitude and rule that requiring permits violates the 2nd Amendment per se.

Got the go ahead to schedule training after I emailed them asking for timeframe
Monday I got a call for phone interview, basic questions
restraining order, renounced citizenship, those questions
They called my references throughout the week.

I'm about to finish the whole process. Just about 90 days since the application submission. Also got Utah permit while I was at it.
Question: anyone here went through the amendment process to list a new firearm with SFPD between your 2-year renewal cycle? If you have, what was the process like, timeframe, and the cost (SFPD say there is no fee, but you'll have to get a training by a certified trainer)?

I've never amended a firearm on my SFPD-issued CCW, but I have inquired about it in the past (year 1 of my 2 year CCW). Initially, their response was no amendments until renewal time, but nowadays, I think they allow you so long as you go through their approved vendor list to requal. on the firearm you want to add.
It was too much trouble for me and with my renewal up this year, I figured I'd wait until renewal time...

Not sure if this is a serious question or not...
If so - from my experience, I've talked to numerous SFPD and SF Sheriff Deputies; majority are supportive of CCW holders (many are also surprised SF residents are actually going through the proper protocols to get their CCW). That's not to say they you're always right even in a justified shoot and they have to do their due diligence in investigation. That's just the LEOs' prospective, the actual DA (as well as the victim's family) may have a differing opinion.
Luckily there has not been any scenarios in SF county (and hopefully there won't be any in the future) that proves that the city goes after lawful CCW holders using their firearm in a (legally justified) self-defense case.
That's why I always advise CCW holders to get insurance or an Attorney on Retainer. Even if its a justified shoot and you win the criminal case, the victim's family may come after you for civil damages...

Thank you for chiming in. I asked the captain who's been handling my case, and he said that amending is possible (and the SFPD CCW webpage talks about that) but it will take time as they are prioritizing the new permit applications, and the best course of action is to put everything you got (well, up to 3) on the permit when you start, and update when you renew. That's my plan for now, but would be great to hear if someone has done a midterm amendment.

It is. DA's in these cities are anti CCW. They can make your life miserable. Stuff like "discharging a firearm in city limits" even if you defended yourself.

Very true. All they care about is prosecuting enough cases to make them look like they had a difference when it comes to reelection/election for their next desired position.

No, they can’t.
When the shooting is determined by LEO investigation and DA review to be a justifiable use of force, one cannot be charged with another offense which was necessary to effect the justifiable shooting. To have justifiably defended oneself with one’s CCW firearm, it was necessary to fire it within the city limits.
