Route 66 range meet up for drills

Shoot with what you have, don't worry about what division it places you. If you're just starting out, it's unlikely you'll be competitive without actually experiencing what it's like.

There's a lot of value to practicing with what you have, especially if you carry. I plan on using my carry one of these next few weekends, and I also would like to check out IDPA at some point (I hear Oh Shoot hosts IDPA at Prado on Sundays)

Yup, for me the goal won't be to be the fastest, but instead, to develop the skills and muscle memory to be able to shoot as accurately as I can as quickly as I can with movement and transitions.

I could try those drills by myself at the range, but it seems more fun doing it with others and watching some of the others shoot really fast.

Let me know when you plan on doing this match. Perhaps we can get a CAguns squad going... I'll be making a trip to socal so this seems like a good opportunity to meet some of ya'll. I'll bring stickers for everyone on the squad if we do it

I may not have time this coming weekend, but I may try for the 22nd.

Wish I lived in SoCal than!! Just checked out Richmond to possibly apply for membership. We like YOLO and love the price there but Richmond seems like a great club.

Are they by sponsorship only?

Yes, sponsorship for full member but not for associate... If you get to the point where you'd like full, since you've participated with the site, I would be glad to sponsor you.

That’s awesome! My wife and I are still deciding if we want to seriously consider RIchmond. We love the RO’s at YOLO and it’s absurdly affordable. But facility leaves a lot to be desired.

If you enjoy shooting, support both. You get a lot for your $$ at these locations and it goes a long way. They're one of the reasons we price low. Access is important and keeping it affordable for people.

Yeah, Lactoast is correct. My first match, I had a comped pistol and I started in open class shooting against the guys in race guns. What’s most important is that you just get your feet wet. How you rank in the beginning is less important the just learning the ropes and gaining experience. When you figure out which division you want to shoot you can then modify or purchase a pistol that fits that divisions rules. Let me know if any of you guys will be shooting next weekends NRG match (5/18), I just registered for it today. We can all try and get on the same squad and shoot it together.
18th or 15th?

Shooting my first match tomorrow afternoon in Chino at Prado for their Wednesday night steel match.

Anyone else attending?

That's what I do. I shoot USPSA for the competition and to test/develop my skills and I shoot IDPA to train my EDC.

IDPA has fewer matches than USPSA so it's nice to bring the speed/accuracy to IDPA with your EDC despite some differences in the way the game is played.

I will say however that I do like the gun divisions more in IDPA, but other than that I lean more USPSA.

I'll be in squad 7 at NRG this Sat 08/22 & Squad 1 at SWPL on 08/23 if you or anyone wants to link up

I'm in squad 7 at SWPL. We'll probably run into each other when my squad is waiting on your squad to finish a stage.
