I used to run an RMR on my CCW and then one time at a qualifier in IDPA I drew my gun and the combination of the sun being directly in front of me and lint being on the optic made it so I couldn't see the dot at all (or through the optic really). It took me what felt like a long time to mentally switch to my backup irons due to the stress of competition and wanting to do well in the qualifier. That taught me two things: always check my dot before competition and that if my dot was somehow compromised in a defensive shooting it could cost me time.

Sure, I could train to use my backup irons and probably overcome that, but I am proficient enough with irons at defensive distances that it just doesn't seem worth the point of failure.

While I like the idea of a sight on my ccw I have 2 reasons to go against it.

1) I want to keep my ccw as light weight as possible.
2) I have astigmatism and so far the dots show up double if not triple for me. And I've tried all three colors

its like being drunk, have 2 guns for the double vision

One with and one I will like to add to my CCW and will not have one to keep it as small and light as possible.

On my with, if the dot stops working or is wet, lint or whatever, the stock sights are still visible enough that for defensive shooting it would still be usable.

Try other brands too. Some work better for then others for people with that same condition.

I do run optics on my CCW guns, but I also practice Draw, Point, Shoot drills, without aiming, up to 10 yards. This should increase my chances of getting a hit in high stress scenarios.

This is something many people don't realize, if you dot goes out or flies off, even if you have no sights you can still get good hits at 10 yards.

this topic comes up quarterly, everyone has their reasons and opinions, personally I hate irons, I don't mind the extra bulk and I'm right and everyone else is wrong. But also everyone else is right because it doesn't matter as long as you train. the only thing that's wrong is that county that doesn't allow dots on their CCW permits.

I've got both dot and non-dot pistols, I train with both and am comfortable with both but prefer my dot guns.

it's ok I run my 320 appendix without a dot. It's actually the dot that makes them shoot you in the .

I have my opinions but I treat them more as preferences. If someone has different opinion I usually don't get involved in the discussion.

But this one not even close. With proper training red dot allows to reduce time of the target aqusition a lot. Especially from unusual angles / stands. So hell yes. With exception of pocket carry guns all my CCW guns get red dot
Now and in the future.

Have you tried a MRS? I don't see individual dots very well except for 6 moa or bigger. But with a 2moa/32 moa it is the clearest for me. Maybe something else to try if you haven't before. Obviously everyone's astigmatism is different so maybe it could help, maybe not

Dots are a great training tool, even if you don't end up using it. Forces you to develop a good index very quickly. You'll be a better shooter for it even if you have to draw and shoot in a DGU situation.

I haven't tried but I plan to. I can't do the single dot. I think circle dot should work just because its a larger area
