Oct 29, 2024, night i got the email. "on my mobile" i wonted to get out in front of it. I did not get any email updates. logged in last night 11/16/24 about 4pm and the new site is asking me to re-upload everything and do the Q/A over. So i did that. would have been nice to get an email to ask me for it.

Same here. Just kept checking every day and had to re-enter everything as well. At least the system kept my original interview date, so hopefully they’re able to keep to that timeline.

I called and they told me that I should have received an email, which I never did. Created a profile, verified my info and uploaded all documents. Now, still waiting…I’m only submitting an amendment to add a couple more firearms. Been waiting since mid-July…kinda ridiculous.

Does anyone know what current processing times are for renewals? My permit expires this month and my renewal application doesn’t appear to be moving even though I submitted it in November as soon as the new system opened. When I lived in less restrictive states, it took 30 days at most. I also don’t understand why permits here are only valid for two years when almost everywhere else is five. I understand that there are probably a ton of applications going in right now, but I’m unclear as to why this process takes so long.

I submitted my renewal on 9/26/2024, and I am still waiting 4 months later. I tried emailing the OC CCW unit about a status and got no response. I will be calling them soon to check on the status. I have a feeling the migration to the new system is not going so well.

I emailed them the other day and got a polite response that said they are working to process renewals as efficiently as possible but I wasn’t given a time. I ended up cancelling my amendment application to add a couple more firearms, as my permit was coming up on 120 days to expiration. I submitted my renewal after getting nowhere with my amendment that dragged on for 6 months. After 3 weeks, I received an email requesting for training certificate and new photo, while I was out of town. When I came back, I took my training on a weekend and submit the documents the same weekend. Got my approval email, Monday afternoon. My last renewal took about 3.5 months.

You HAVE to resubmit into the new system if you started your application in the old one.

Also, I was in a training class with a gentleman who had to reapply as a new application beaus he let his permit expire before trying to renew.

Yes. I submitted my application in the new system. My window to renew opened during the time between systems which delayed my submitting the renewal. There’s no reason this should take so long.

Interesting that yours was so fast when others (me included) are experiencing long wait times. I’ve submitted everything in the new system. This shouldn’t take this much time. I’m hoping this will be my last renewal and I’ll get out of California in the next two years.

IAs usually prioritize workload to meet the needs of the system. That means:
1. Renewals - folks have licenses, have been screened and need to be reissued before expiration.
2. Replacements (lost, stolen change of address) - same reasons as Renewals.
3. Initial issue - Trying to flow more people into the system so the IA doesn’t get sued.
4. Modifications/Additions - folks already have a valid license and guns.

Many IAs don’t allow Additions/Mods between renewals because it cuts into the ability to support the other groups.

They never denied. I called, I emailed them several time during that 6 months. They just told me that it has not been assigned to be reviewed yet. So, after 6 months of waiting and my 120 days to permit expiration coming up. I called them and was advised to cancel my amendment application and apply for my renewal. That’s exactly what I did and added to new firearms to my renewal application. So, my permit doesn’t expire for another 3 months but my renewal is already approved. Not complaining about that, for sure. But it was quite a surprise to see them to move that fast.

Then I’m really confused as to why my renewal is taking longer than my initial permit. Not criticizing OCSD, but it’s baffling that other states can renew permits in 30 days and everything in California takes a long time. I will be so glad the day I move out of this state.

Just had my interview at OC Sheriff offices this morning (application originally submitted 10/3/24). Interview was about 10 minutes, just confirming all personal info, firearms and asking some pretty standard background questions. Had already completed Livescan, training, submitted photo, etc over the last few months, so the last step was for the case manager to contact all three of my references, which she did within about 1/2 hr after the interview. Reference checks were each about a 1-2 minute phone call with a few boilerplate questions, and now my application has been moved on for final approval, and waiting on email requesting payment.

The “References” is a new one. I don’t recall having to provide any references. However, when I applied, “Statement of Good Cause” and a letter from my employer listing my job duties and responsibility was required. I guess they removed some requirements, but added others.

Correct. The application does need employer name and address, but no additional documentation, and no more statement of good cause, as I'm sure has been mentioned on these boards. The interviewer let me know she would be calling my references as soon as I left, and actually encouraged me to text them all to give them a heads-up so they wouldn't miss the call. I did get confirmation from all three of my references that they got called very shortly after I texted them and they had to answer a few basic questions: How long have you known him? What is your relationship? Do you believe him to be a stable individual? (or something along those lines), and On a scale of 1-10, how comfortable do you feel around him when he's armed?

I didn’t receive any unprompted email from OCSD until a week before my appointment. I did email the CCW unit a couple times when I had questions and they were very responsive. Was also able to easily change my CCW weapons on my application prior to my interview, which was nice. You should be able to login and check the status of your app, verify that all your info is correct, and upload any docs they’ll need from you.
