Sadly I will be moving to Pasadena during this summer. Not looking forward to going through this length of process.
Did you ever successfully apply? I’m in Pasadena too and thinking to get started but am a bit apprehensive about how long and arduous the process may take. Did you have to do training FIRST before applying? Does anyone have any specific information on IA’s stance on mods/attachments?

might be faster since your going through Pasadena and not LASD

I put my app in to my local sheriffs office 10/2022. Since then I've confirmed twice now with the ccw unit that they have my application. I still have not moved forward at all in the process.

After 1 year and 11 months from initial application. I finally received my phone interview today around 9 am from a “No Caller ID” number. I applied September 2022, around the 20th i believe.

I checked the status of my application twice over the last 2 years by emailing the CCW unit. I received the generic “your application is waiting to be assigned” response both times.

I am beyond happy the call finally came. Hopefully can get my hands on the license in the next 6 months.

Do you happen to know when was your application entered into the system?

I do not.

I asked that question in both of my emails to the CCW unit in the last 2 years and they didn’t answer either time. All they said is my application was received and will be processed when it’s time.

Dont know if this will help on timeline for you but:
7/10/2022: Sent application in.
1/6/2023: Received email saying application was received and would be notified when assigned to an investigator. (5 months to get entered in system?)
1/6/2024: Next was contacted for a phone interview which I believe was just about a year later.

Now comes my favorite part, since they are able to drag the ccw process out as long as they like but once they start working your application you now have deadlines to meet.

1/9/2024: Email recieved to complete live scan. They gave me 2 days to do it.
3/5/2024: Email to proceed to training. 60 days to complete and turn in all documents.
3/23/2024: Completed and sent in all docs.
7/15/2024: Phone call to schedule pickup
7/26/2024: Picked up

All in all, 747 days from when my application was sent off. Absolutely crazy!

I posted my timeline below. It was within the 6- almost 7 month time frame from interview call to pickup for me. January call - end of July Pickup.

anyone know in the initial app if the 3 references can be all family members?

Submitted my renewal a few weeks ago, let’s hope this is a quick process
They actually got to my renewal app pretty quick, around two and a half weeks after submitting my renewal app asking for more docs, then sending me another email a few days later telling me to proceed to training.

No movement on mine yet. Hopefully don’t need any docs as I submitted everything and did my training already too

Hey all. Just sent in all my docs and live scan.

Am I able to do training and complete it before I receive a proceed to training email? I know people have done it in the past but I’m not sure if it’s allowed nowadays. I know they changed the rule on doing live scans prematurely so I’m hoping that’s not the case for training.

I’d rather do the training ASAP so I can respond same day to my proceed to training email.

When you say docs, do you mean your initial application? Have you had your interview and live scan has cleared?

If you just had your interview I’d wait, you’re in for a long road wait wise. You can do your training but it’s only good for 12 months so keep that in mind. Would suck to have to pay for and do 36 hours of training

Had my interview and sent all my proof of residency docs at the request of the investigator. Also sent in my live scan transaction form.

Based on everyone’s timelines I should expect a proceed to training email in the next 60ish days so I should be good to go to training as early as I would like then no? If it’s good for 12 months.

Thank you! Folks on reddit were pushing others to do it and citing all the advantages - and they were right. It's incredibly easy, and the waiting was the more annoying part of the entire process. I hate seeing posts where people are getting gouged by their FFLs on ammo, whether in-store or shipped in. Screw the middle man, fight the power, etc.

Maybe I'll get my UPS guy a gift certificate for a massage this year for Xmas, to help offset all the ammo drops 💪😂
Whats the reddit page title. Interested to read it.

Just picked up my CCW this week. Total time: 2 years, 2 months.

Some advice based on my experience: Don't call until you are further into the process. If they cash your application money order, then you are in the queue. It took over 550 days before I got first contact (for the interview). I see that timeline is slipping to 600-700 days now. After the interview, the next step is receiving the "proceed to training" email. This took 75 days for me, but I've seen others wait as long as 120 days. When you submit your training documents, it took me another 120 days before I got the pickup call. A good time to send an email inquiry would be 90 days after you submit your training docs. If you don't get a reply after a couple of weeks, make the phone call. Good luck and be patient.
