CCW Los Angeles CCW (LASD ONLY)

I will be going to Jarvis Firearms Training, largely because they are the closest to where I live and under a 30 minute drive (plus they are well reviewed, and they have been very helpful with quick replies to questions).

The other two places I was considering before I found Jarvis are a 1-2 hours drive each way.... I'm about to do a round trip ride to southern Oregon so will have had my fill of driving/riding when that is done.

On another note... in your PTT email, was there any wording to indicate they would NOT accept your PTT completion if you had taken the class prior to receiving the email to proceed?

Thanks!
Hello CCW Applicant,

You have been authorized to complete the (16) hour firearm training course.

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS THOROUGHLY.

Visit our website, https://lasd.org/ccw/ to view the list of training providers authorized by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Only certificates of completion from authorized training providers will be accepted.

The certificate of completion must be accompanied by our Shooting Proficiency Standards form.

No preference towards a training provider is shown or implied. The training providers have met the minimum standards for CCW firearms training as set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Senate Bill 2 guidelines.

Training must be completed and received within 60 days from the date of this email, or your file will be withdrawn. No exceptions.
All firearm information, including make, model, serial number, and caliber must be accurate on all documents and registered with the DOJ. Incorrect DROS registration will delay the issuance of your CCW License.
LASD allows up to 3 firearms on a CCW license.
Firearms Training documents must match the firearms listed on your application.
If you qualify with different firearms, they will not be included on your CCW license.
Training must meet the statutory requirements of Penal Code section 26165.
Applicants are responsible for selecting and contacting an LASD authorized training provider from the list referenced above.
LASD will not accept an applicant’s proof of training dated more than one year prior to the date of LASD’s initial determination (date of this email) that the applicant is not a disqualified person pursuant to Penal Code section 26202 (d)(1).
When course is completed: Upload your documents to your order on Permitium. https://lasd.permitium.com/order_tracker

PDF copy - Shooting Proficiency Standards Form
PDF copy - Certificate of Completion from the vendor
Once firearms training has been verified and your file is complete, you will receive an email or text message via Permitium for final payment and to schedule your appointment online.

Thank you! That was a big help. This was the part I was looking for... It is one year as others here have stated (and not 90 days).

I'm going to go ahead with my training I have scheduled at the end of the month, whether notified yet or not.

The standout thing in your timeline (compared to others I have seen) is how friggen long it took from your interview to getting your PTT email. Almost ten months 🫤. That’s nuts.

I took the class before I got the PTT email. Upon receiving the PTT email I uploaded my completion certs and it was accepted no questions asked

Yep, especially considering that the guy that did my interview said that the next step should take about 3 months. I think it was because they were trying to burn through the paper applicants at the time. That should be over with. Hopefully it’s back to 3 months now.

Anyone have a recommendation for training for LASD? I was going to do it with Medic Up consulting but it is a bit of a drive. I'm like borderline LA/OC county.

I did mine with FTA at Raahagues. I am guessing you're along the 605? Look through the approved vendor list and pick a range that you wouldn't mind driving to.

8/10/23 Applied
02/22/24 Original interview but was pushed back
08/06/24 Interview(was originally scheduled for the 22nd but got an early call
08/09/24 First Live scan
10/18/24 Live scan submitted second time as first one was stuck and never uploaded to DOJ.
04/30/25 Authorized to do training
05/30-31/25 Training
5/31/25 Submitted Training documents
6/30/25 Permit processed and final payment
7/15/25 Permit picked up

Yup right where the 605 and 91 meet. Thank you, that course is wayy cheaper than medic up and a better drive.

I did my training with Medic Up. I did not choose based on drive distance, although they were not far, or cost I chose based on reviews and word of mouth. I met the guys and had a chance to talk to them before I had to do training and even ended up taking a few classes with them before I did my CCW qual. The whole team is very knowledgeable and made up of active and retired LEO.

+1 for Medic Up. They were great 👍

Just received my PTT email. The wording was exactly as the one posted further up in the thread.

Just in time as I am doing my first day of training on Sunday (and second day the following Saturday).

My Livescan shows all three completed, CCW application status shows "Supervisor Review".

Would be insane if I can pick up before end of the year.

Edit: I read this in the middle of the night... read it as a question, like would IT be insane if... Wouldn't have posted such a long response lol 😊.

I deleted my long ass response. Best of luck... it will be probably close.

For the others that have receiver their PTT email... did anything change on your Permitium tracker account?

Other than changing to Supervisor Review status, nothing has been edited on mine since my interview. There is even still a yellow block of text at the bottom that says I need to provide a current utility bill dispite having done so before my interview (as well as providing it at my interview).

I just thought it would have shown "proceed to PTT" or something like that.

Best of luck to you as well. Would be a solid Christmas present

Be warned. If any of your firearms was/were stolen in the past 10 years, even on a renewal, Sheriffs will want to see the report. You can be disqualified if more than 1 gun was stolen due to it being stored improperly. If the report was not made through LASD…ie. LAPD…you have to order it through the LAPD…which takes 9 months to obtain.

I was just emailed asking to upload Utility Bill with service address...
I already uploaded a internet bill statement from frontier when I initially applied, my name and address at the bottom of the first page. So I just upload a recent version of the same statement as I don't have any other Utilities in my name. Hope they just missed seeing the address and can take it.
More delays
