Just keep whistling and twirling thumbs until the permit arrives and then we can all celebrate the fact that we now can legally carry our guns in our backyards and maybe two more public places in California. Yaayyyy!!!!!!

While I have some concerns about "Sensitive Places" limitations, most states have some limitations. It's quite common to forbid carry at sporting events, and metal detectors are used to ensure it. As long as no one can carry, I'm not too perturbed. I object when school zones are forbidden, since there's no practical mechanism for enforcing the weapons ban. Bad guys can have a weapon, but lawful people cannot.
In CA, anywhere alcohol is served, CCW carry is forbidden. I prefer the way North Carolina and Florida handle it. The latter allows you to be in a restaurant that serves alcohol, as long as you don't drink, but you can't carry in a bar. NC allows you to be anywhere alcohol is served as long as you don't drink.
I'd like to note that LAPD has posted a document listing sensitive places as determined by the 9th Circuit Court (of all the courts!). Some locations proscribed by SB2 are enjoined from being enforced. In particular, Public Transit is enjoined. The reasoning appears to be that because even unloaded and locked weapons are not allowed, the law is unconstitutional.

According to the list provided by CA DOJ, churches, banks, medical facilities, public gatherings, and private businesses are OK to carry, unless they have posted signs forbidding it. So, significant portions of SB2 are currently unenforceable. Organizations like the CRPA, GOC, and SAF have done a lot of heavy lifting here. They deserve our continued financial support.

Still pending reference calls since 1/13/26 after my interview. Trainings submitted 2/2/26. Called LAPD and they said they let my investigator know as well. I just submitted AZ CCW app with fingerprint appointment on 2/16

AZ permit will be in my hands before any of my references are contacted i bet…

AZ approved today 2/17/26

You’re right . All the reviews except one took about two weeks . One took only a day or two but I don’t remember which one .

The Final Review only took a day or two for me. After the Chief signs off, the officer you interviewed with needs to go over the packet once more to make sure all i's are dotted and t's crossed.

Yea. You should receive an email/text that’s says

“Los Angeles PD CCW Application XXXXXXXXX is APPROVED. Please check you email for instructions for the next step.”

Total time was 14 month.
For whatever it took 3 month since I uploaded training certificates to the moment I got the license. Another person who took class with me got his in two weeks.....

One angle I don’t see discussed much is the predictability problem. If lawful carry depends on whether a private business happens to post a sign, then the legality of exercising a permit can change literally from one doorway to the next. That creates a situation where a licensed carrier can unintentionally commit a crime simply by missing signage or entering a building from a different entrance.

Regardless of where someone stands on carry policy, laws generally need to give people clear notice of what conduct is illegal. When the boundary between lawful carry and a felony depends on constantly changing private signage it raises a real question about whether the law is providing meaningful notice at all.

Anyone in LA county whose city uses myccw? I uploaded everything and finished all the steps on myccw (livescan, psych eval, qual, references, interview) and everything was submitted to my local PD for final approval back in January. It's been two months since and crickets.

That’s crazy. My appointment is late April. I got on the waitlist Dec 2024. LAPD. Glad you got it a lot sooner.

Have my interview tomorrow. Since LAPD is now using Permitium, do I need to take anything with me? Submitted the $60 app fee online along with proof of residency, etc.. Livescan already completed with doj, firearms course already done. Since they are using Permitium is the process any faster?

Start to finish was a year for me… wait list in March of 2025 and contacted in Nov 2025,
I waited 15 minutes for my interview and before I sat down with the officer, he asked if I completed my Training…. I replied, NO and he said get it done, I filled out a self addressed envelope and he approved the interview… self addressed envelope arrived with my license in March 2026.

One benefit of being a law abiding citizen, I guess.

Overall a great experience, tedious… Yes, but I feel all applicants will walk away learning valuable information.
I did not feel at any point, anyone was trying to disqualify me for getting the CCW.
Training was fun and very informative… puts to rest a lot of debates I read on this forum.
Qualifying is super easy, so don’t stress out.

My one big takeaway is to buy Self Defense insurance and not a legal retainer… you will be sued civilly, even if you are cleared of any wrongdoing and Self Defense insurance will cover the civil settlement. Good question to ask, is if your Self Defense insurance will cover you in a SB2 prohibited place… most will, because they look at the federal requirement and not the state prohibited places.

The honeymoon phase came and went, so I don’t tease my friends by flashing my card at them but still carry in my garage and backyard… LOL.

My buddy got on the wait list in November 2025 and already was contacted in March 2026 to complete his application.

Looks like the timeline is speeding up.

Just a quick update for you guys. The process took just about 4 months. I paid the final fee today, and my app is showing all green:
