KRG X-ray bolt handle inlet

I'm new to building rifles and was building my bolt action rifle build with my X-ray chassis and saw that the bolt handle inlet looked a bit off compared to the rest of the images on the internet. Is this normal?

Absolutely not normal. It looks like someone took a Dremel to it. That is definitely not a factory finish. Did you buy it new? If you bought it new they sent you a return that someone worked on.

That looks horrendous!

I bought it new. I was wondering the same thing when I unboxed it. Looks like they messed up in cutting out that hole

I believe there are left hand and right hand versions of the X-ray.
There are left and right side pieces made for each with and without bolt handle cuts depending on which chassis the side-piece is intended to go on.
That inlet looks like KRG might have been out of right-hand right-side pieces and they hand-inletted a left-hand right-side piece to fulfill your order.

it seems like you are correct. I received this message from KRG:

Sir, the Howa 1500 uses a modified Rem 700 grip panel and is done by hand at our shop. The shop was sent your pictures to confirm if you have the correct grip panel and they confirmed that yours is correct. Be sure that the bolt handle does not contact the polymer, and you should not have any issues with cycling of the bolt or function of the chassis.

They hand finish the grip panel to fit a Howa 1500 SA apparently. I'll check if it works fine but I would've really liked if it at least had a better finish.

Subpar workmanship! I would rework the bolt notch with a Dermel or a rat tail file so it looks cleaner than tape it of and paint the reworked area.

I can't believe a company would sell a product like that as new. I guess it's just a sign of the times these days... everything is subpar

PM me if you'd like those nasty grind marks machined into a nice uniform notch.

No worries either way and I hope the company can help you instead of making an excuse for their shotty craftsmanship.

After it's shaped how you want it, re-melt the effected surface with an SMD rework gun.

The re-melting will remove the tool marks that make it look ugly and make the surface color the same as the rest of the side panel.

Making me reconsider purchasing a KRG. I like the Xray, and was considering it for my 700SA Clone build. For $500 I'd expect better work.

I’d return it and ask for a part that’s not buggered up and has the proper finish. What they sent you is unacceptable in my book.
