How many carry guns is too many?

I get three on my ccw. so I have three. NOW. I went through a cycle of trying a bunch of different ones so I finally amended my CCW to the 3 I settled on. sold off the others cause well, I have "range toys", SHTF, and CCW at least that's the way I think of them. I dont have infinite safe space

This is my exact train of thought! I don’t need a bunch of CCW guns sitting in my safe going unused. I’ve narrowed my options to the two pistols that fit ME and my carry style and run with those. Why have a bunch of sub-compact pistols in the safe that aren’t fun to shoot, and ultimately lose out to the ones that shoot better anyway. I sold all those and bought better toys that love getting use!

only thing I’m justifying buying these days are 2011s. I sold off a lot of my collection a number of years ago when my 1911/2011 addiction took over. That is when I came into realization that I didn’t need 5 CCW guns. I hated shooting the little suckers at the range. I’d rather be proficient with my 2 CCW guns and blast away with my fun range toys in the second half of my range time.

But every new gun owner seems to chase the small gun fad. I believe in quality over quantity.

Small gun fad.... yeah, I have large-ish hands, so I just don't feel comfortable with guns that are too small. My G27 is about the smallest I can go comfortably...

It's a complicated question. I used to have a limit on my license. Now there is no limit .... I got 1 5" 1911, 2 4" 1911s, 1 3" 1911. Why these for starters? Went to a 1911 for a duty gun so I went to 1911s for carry. 5" is my duty gun and I rarely CCW it, mainly I carry the railed 4". The non railed is the 'backup' (if you got one you got none... If you got 2 you got one,). The spare 4" is not railed but otherwise all the parts swap (same manufacturer slight model differences). The 3" is my duty backup and my pocket gun if needed.

Then I have my striker fired ones.... My old duty XD, and my xds' (4" and 3"... 4" used to be my backup on duty and is my pocket gun). I keep the XD for the high capacity (plus I got crapload of gear and accessories for it) and the two xds' complement each other - same mags and I got plenty of those.

Lastly I have my LCP. The real pocket gun.

I could sell Xds' and make good money on them but I like the way they shoot ... The XD, I wouldn't sell without a major overhaul (shot it a lot!) plus I got loads of high cap mags for it.

At some point someone told me: if you got that many on your card, it can be used against you should you be involved in a shooting. Well, I will take my chances. I can explain each and every one of them in a logical fashion.

Funding wise, yeah if I sold them I could buy something else but I don't want anything else ... Ok .. fine... I could use a small wheelgun. But at some point I can buy it without selling off what I have .

Oh yeah, the 4" and 5" 1911s all use the same mags and I got plenty for spares....

And lastly - if something happens and one of my firearms is down for whatever reason, I don't want to feel limited/pushed into the replacement. I want choices.

Having options is always better than having no options. Especially when it dosent cost you anything aside from the ammo during your firing test. It also makes going to the range easier as you dont need to lock up certain guns on the way. I definitely dont see the harm in having 10 guns on your license if you're gonna own them either way.

I dont think there's a limit. I have 2, a shield plus and a LCP max for easy pocket carry when I don't want to carry the shield.

1911 is the best!!! Finest pistol in history, period.

I am allowed 6 on my permit so I have 6. I am not a big guy so I cant conceal a g34 or a full size 1911
But with them on my permit I can have them in the console or glove box or by my seat legally and also have my edc g26

My IA limits to 3. That’s not nearly as many as I’d like to be able to have available to carry. Linking our ability to carry to a specific serial number firearm is dumb. I know that’s the point, but it’s still annoying.

I lived in Arizona off and on for 5 years. There was no limit on number of guns you could use for conceal carry as you don't list anything on your permit. After trying out a bunch of guns from S&W snubbies, Ruger LCP, S&W Shield, Glock 42 I ended up with just 1 gun I exclusively carried. Sig P365. It shot well, was easy to conceal and had decent capacity. I haven't bothered applying for a concealed carry license since moving back to California but I would do the same thing here. The Sig P365 fit perfectly for my personal use case.

Yeah I can’t wrap my head around a bunch of different pistols. I can see having a backup of my 2 carry pistols, in the exact configuration. But even at that, what are the chances both of my CCW pistols go down at the exact time. And if I’m involved in a shoot, my carry guns are least of my worries. I’d rather focus on being proficient with my 2 carry guns.
