Help: Springfield TRP Firing Pin Malfunction

There should be little to no movement with the stop in place. Erratic ejection, FTE, etc.

Pull the firing pin and spring. Put the stop back in place with the extractor. How snug is it?
It is not snug at all, it slides out on its own. I originally discovered the issue when I was function testing, after the dry fire, with the pin depressed in the tunnel, the back plate fell out. Could there be an issue with the extractor?
 
I think you've got two issues to confirm. A weak firing pin spring and a potentially loose firing pin stop. The stop should fit snug to the slot. The extractor should sit snug to the stop.
 
No im not saying you put anything wrong, just saying that for the slide there isn't any way to put anything in wrong since they have to go in one certain way only. So putting in anything wrong is not a cause of the issue you are having
I don't think that could be the case either, as the firing pin remains depressed in the tunnel--the firing pin is sticking and it can only go in the tunnel in one direction.
 
Worn firing pin spring causing the pin issue. It's traveling too far forward and getting stuck. The loose stop could shift down when the pin moves forward so the pin drags and can't return to it's normal state.

if the firing pin spring is weak and the back plate is fit loosely, there is a situation where under dry fire with no snap cap that the firing pin is for far forward that the plate falls out. When its stuck, can you push the plate back up into position? you can try a new firing pin spring and also get a gunsmith fit plate and fit it tightly.
 
In pic 3 the firing pin stop looks like it’s in backwards or a different stop. The reason it’s getting stuck is like others have said there is nothing to keep it from going fully forward and the pin getting stuck in the hole. And the reason you can’t make it stick manually is because you can’t get the same amount of force as the hammer striking it.
Pic 3 is with the back plate removed, it shows that the pin remains depressed in the tunnel when the plate is removed.
 
I hope its weak spring because if that thing has internal burrs/galling were the spring is catching onto causing it to get stuck thats gonna suck real bad to fix.

Hopefully Springfield would replace the slide if that were the case. I don't see any situation though, where cleaning and reassembly could cause a burr, scratch, gall etc.
 
Send it back Springfield. I still think you have a firing pin stop issue. The stop can move putting the pin at an angle and its getting stuck in the hole. If you are dry firing with an empty chamber, the pin will extend further than it will with a cartrige. The pin is taped and the wider section may be getting hung up. Combine that with a slight angle as the alignment changes due to the sloppy pin stop and you have your issue.

Odds of it being the spring, especially as you say you put a new one in, seem low. Most 1911's have extra power firing pin springs included for drop safety these days. Having a spring go bad at 2000 rounds and a new spring also fail would be interesting. That said, changing the firing pin spring when you change the recoil spring is a common practice.

Yes. The pin stop should be snug in place holding the extractor regardless of the firing pin position. The stop limits the pin travel and supports the rear of the pin but it must remain snug to lock in the extractor regardless of the pin.

The back plate is loose, it slides out when the pin is depressed in the tunnel. I spoke wit Springfield, they will not send a new extractor or back plate as the extractor needs to be tuned to the gun, according to them. I made arrangements to ship to them. I will update the channel with the final resolution when it is complete, probably a month from now.

the firing pin stop plate is fit snug to the slide, the extractor is fit snug to the firing pin stop plate. The extractor doesn't maintain tension on the plate and has nothing to do with this. The plate being loose doesn't either if the pin gets stuck and will stay there with the plate removed

If the stop is loose and moves, it can shift, potentially putting the pin at an angle. Combine that with dry firing with no snap caps where the pin extends further than normal into the chamber and it can get stuck. A bent firing pin or a misaligned firing pin can get stuck in the breech.

The stop and extractor need to be a snug/tight fit. He said the stop falls out when the firing pin is not inserted. That means it's a poor fit to the slide. It may or may not be loose to the extractor, but even if it's snug to the extractor, it's loose in it's slot which is not good as the extractor can shift as well.

That is correct. The firing pin stop and the extractor are both fitted parts.

That said, fitting an extractor versus tuning the extractor are two different animals.
