Help: Springfield TRP Firing Pin Malfunction

Are you using snap caps when dry firing? Sometimes with nothing to stop it the pin can go forward enough to stick but they usually don't. Have you live fired it yet and if not when you do go one round at a time so if it sticks the pin won't get bent. I would check the FP hole also. I always use canned air to blow it out from front and back.
 
His photo on post #2 looks like it might be incorrect. Here is a photo of my TRP slide bottom view.
It can't go in backwards or upside down. Backwards, it won't fit the channels on either side. If you put it in upside down, the slide won't close as the stop will run into the ejector.
 
I'm not going to be able to solve your problem from here, but I have a couple ideas that might point you in the right direction.

It isn't clear why or when you installed the new firing pin assembly. If the problem arose after the installation of the new one, then put the old one back. If the problem existed before the installation of the new one, put the old one back. You're introducing more variables into the system. Get the old system working perfectly before randomly changing things.

Is the firing pin bore PERFECTLY clean? I mean perfectly? Like in "clean room clean?" A stray particle of brass or powder can cause a jam. Sometimes a little shaving can get blown back into the firing pin hole. Do you have a brass brush that fits the firing pin channel? Use it. If you don't, make something to clean the bore.

Disassemble again, and just push the firing pin back and forth through the channel. It should be perfectly free along the whole path.

Do the same with the spring. Make sure it's not binding up in there.

Now put the firing pin and the spring in there together and check for binding.

You said it only gets stuck when dry firing. When dry firing, the firing pin protrudes just a little further. Could it be bent?

Yes, it is installed correctly. I don’t see how a back plate on a 1911 can be installed incorrectly.
 
For additional clarity, more photos.

1) Proper install

2) After a dry fire, the pin is not resetting

3) After removing the back plate, the pin remains lodged in the tunnel in the forward position

There are no obstructions, there are no burrs, there are no bends in the pin, the springs in both assemblies are closed on both ends (there is no open end or closed end). When depressing it manually, I cannot recreate the issue.

Can you make the firing pin get stuck by manually pushing it forward?

I would remove the rear plate and see if you can recreate it. Could be something as simple as a burr on the firing pin hole.

When you say this happens during cycling, do you mean just racking the slide causes this to happen?
I cannot recreate the issue

No. I thought about using caps but then realized that the the pic should not stick even on a dry fire, that would be a malfunction. I blew everything out, there are no obstructions.
 
My only guess now is that something is out of spec

He shot it about 2000 rounds without issues, and he did a full breakdown, which really wasn’t necessary, and when it was put back together now there’s an issue. I doubt something is out of spec. Something is not put back together properly.
 
A 1911 firing pin can go super far without a bullet to stop it, Im not sure there's an actual problem here because it would never go that far normally when its fired. It's just probably getting wedged because it's going way too far.
 
It looks like you have an issue with the firing pin stop. The extractor looks like it's clocking/turning which would suggest it's loose. Check the extactor in 1 vs 3. It's rotated.

Pull the firing pin and put the stop back in with the extractor in place. Does it stay in place or is it loose? It should fit snug.

Yes but he changed to a new set of pin and spring for it. There isn't any way to put anything in the slide wrong since they need to put in a specific way in order to go back together. He's deep cleaned it so there isn't anything in the channel. The firing pin spring isn't like the recoil spring where it has a tight end and loose end so it can be installed either way without problem. So it's either the new set is out of spec or a drastically weak spring for some reason
 
Uninformed question… I see the extractor rotates when the slide is locked back. Is that supposed to happen?
 
It looks like you have an issue with the firing pin stop. The extractor looks like it's clocking/turning which would suggest it's loose. Check the extactor in 1 vs 3. It's rotated.

Pull the firing pin and put the stop back in with the extractor in place. Does it stay in place or is it loose? It should fit snug.

It does not rotate when the slide is locked back, it's rotated slightly in the pic where the back is removed (3). But only rotated when I removed the back plate.
 
There should be little to no movement with the stop in place. Erratic ejection, FTE, etc.

Pull the firing pin and spring. Put the stop back in place with the extractor. How snug is it?

No but it can happen. On my loaded it can rotate when I'm reinstalling and if it isn't correctly aligned with the stop

I can't figure out what might not be put back together properly, but my mind is open that maybe I did? Nonetheless, the pin and spring remain depressed in he tunnel, which would have nothing to do with the assembly.

No im not saying you put anything wrong, just saying that for the slide there isn't any way to put anything in wrong since they have to go in one certain way only. So putting in anything wrong is not a cause of the issue you are having
 
In pic 3 the firing pin stop looks like it’s in backwards or a different stop. The reason it’s getting stuck is like others have said there is nothing to keep it from going fully forward and the pin getting stuck in the hole. And the reason you can’t make it stick manually is because you can’t get the same amount of force as the hammer striking it.
