I don't know. I bought the rifle off the consignment rack many years ago. It's all USGI parts except a Smith Enterprises scope mount and the brake. Didn't realize I had a unicorn. I wonder if it is something Smith Enterprises used to make?Where did you find that? I want one!
As far as I know, springfield only made the long brakes with the flat bottom
You are not going to get a definitive answer because CA DOJ doesn't make a determination on what is allowed but what isn't allowed. They rely on what the manufacture markets the item as. If i am not mistaken, when BCM started marketing their brakes as having flash hiding abilities there was an uproar and I believe they stopped their marketing to even mention flash.I will say this again, not one person has shown this item is not legal in CA.
Just the fact this is even a discussion is insane to me to be honest.
It's both legal and illegal at the same time. You're just too obtuse to understand that. It's already been explained here. You could put it on a registered AW or perhaps on a mag locked build. But if you put it on a featureless build you've created an illegal AW.I will say this again, not one person has shown this item is not legal in CA.

Definitely NOT a fan compensators for anything other than competition, BUT, I shot a BCM Mod 5 comp the other day and loved it! Not sure what wizardry they used on it, but it shot super flat and had none of the obnoxious side percussion. This will definitely go on whatever my next build is. Well done, BCM!
just be prepared for dumbasses to come up and call it a flash hider anyway even though theres no expansion chamber. if your worried about legality, it looks like a FH. A different design will stop a leo from raising an eyebrow, or you having to explain it in an interview roomI know the OP was looking for something on a P/W, but for those who like the birdcage look, and want to run featureless, these A2-style muzzle breaks are hard to beat @ <$10.00

That's not necessarily true. For example, I could have a RAW lower, which is a make/model RAW. I could take the stripped lower, and completely rebuild it from scratch. Same is true with a BBRAW, except I need to leave the bullet button on.OP is working on a build. So it isn't a RAW or BBAW.
You could have that, but the OP didn’t spec it as part of the build. That's not necessarily true. For example, I could have a RAW lower, which is a make/model RAW. Incorrect. A named RAW is defined by the make model, which on an AR is defined by the lower. I can take the RAW and remove everything except the lower and replace it. Because it still has the same make/model/serial, it is the same gun, and the AW registration continues to apply to it, and it is legal. You can even change caliber and barrel length (within reason). If you “completely rebuild” a named RAW/BBRAW, I believe you will have manufactured a different, Unregistered AW and committed a few felonies.
Loud? Get a tank brake for that AR. Great brake at mitigating recoil but those around you will hate you!I like anything that makes it loud and flashy.
(I already have severe tinnitus and some hearing loss from firing 60mm, 81mm, 120mm mortars, M2 Browning, M249 SAW, and M240B many times without adequate ear plugs.)
Good luck everybody else firing near me!
Sorry,I interpreted your concept differently.Incorrect.
I need a loudener muzzle brake for my recent build. Thinking q cherry or jmac laf.Loud? Get a tank brake for that AR. Great brake at mitigating recoil but those around you will hate you!![]()
