Question Best Sites to Buy Ammo Online

The last few times I've tried to buy my favorite ammo at Target Sports USA they were out of stock, and out of stock with my second, third, fourth, and other choices. The only options were no-name brands with mixed reviews.

Same issue with Velocity. My favorite ammo is Sellier & Bellot FMJ 124gr. So hard to find lately.

I'm going to try some other places. I have an FFL03/COE.

I've actually never bought ammo online before and was looking for some recommended sites. Please share which places you've had good experiences with and which places one should avoid!
If you can find a local FFL that will not charge you a huge amount of $$ to deliver, you can have some of the online companies like HSL deliver bulk orders for about $260 with shipping.

HSL is good ammo and I’ve bought a decent bit of it, but worth noting that the bulk stuff at those prices is generally reman using processed once-fired brass, not factory-new ammo. So it’s not quite an apples-to-apples price comparison with new factory ammo.

Ammo supply warehouse ships ammo and mags that are not neutered straight to your home. You are welcome!

Not sure why everyone is making it so complicated. I use the following steps:

1) Call a few ffl’s near you and see if they can accept ammo on your behalf, and how much they charge. Many charge between $15-$20 for thousand rounds or so.
2) I go to ammoseek.com . Search for ammo I need and limit to shipping rating of 8 or above.
3) select the best one, and compare it to how much it is at the local ammo store. ( don’t forget to add the taxes, shipping and ffl fees in your comparison.)
4) fill the order form, select your ffl from their list and order.
5) once at your ffl, go and pickup.

Usually large orders of 1k+ rounds become more economical.

Hope this helps.

I got you dog. FFL03/COE accepted only downside is shipping, for me it $17.99. But no sales tax upfront or excise tax. $267.79 for a case OTD

Am I missing something? Over a year ago ammunition purchase background checks were struck down by 9th circuit appellate Court. I haven't bought ammo in a few months, but some** online retailers that were already shipping to FFLs started shipping direct to any CA address...(Hypothetically...)...

It was struck down ("Rhodes") but put on hold while the appeal is in progress. Never actually went into effect but some vendors jumped the gun for a couple of days.

2A court cases in CA... one grows old and dies before the 2A is upheld.

Question- if you have ffl03 and coe, and buy from website that doesn’t collect tax and arrives to our door step……do we still have to pay tax,,,,,if so where do I pay it?
I believe you have to pay sales tax on your FTB tax form, but there is no obligation to pay the 11% excise tax-

36011. Commencing July 1, 2024, an excise tax is hereby imposed upon licensed firearms dealers, firearms manufacturers, and ammunition vendors, at the rate of 11 percent of the gross receipts from the retail sale in this state of any firearm, firearm precursor part, or ammunition.

FFL-03s aren't considered a licensed firearms dealer, manufacturer, or ammunition vendor under the law.

I just bought some 7mm prc and some 308 from them and I always look at 9mm pricing just in case and remembered that was the cheapest per round haha.

I would love an ammo sponsor though, I just spent $250 on 80 round of ammo.

Assuming you have a FFL03, use Ammoseek or Ammofinder for pricing and cross reference with the latest CA friendly dealers list (don't have the link Handy) and go shopping. Prices are def up and a lot of stuff out of stock, especially at Target Sports. Used to use Velocity a lot but they've kinda gone to 💩. Wild Horse was good for 9mm about a month ago but generally things just seem to be all over the map and you just have to look more if you want deals. When I find a good deal I usually buy 1000-2000 rounds.

I also poke around Gunbroker and surplus places, sometimes find more obscure like 9mm Mak on GB or 32 ACP Surplus at RTI. Going through retail or even a FFL, F that, the 21% tax plus fees is crazy...

I buy online often from Target Sports. They are prompt and process orders fairly quickly. You do need FFL03 and COE to have it shipped to you directly.
