A lot of them hate doing it and charge insane amounts, I've seen as high as 250$. Those same FFLs also never have anything cool in stock...

Curious, could it be because some rifles are not on the drop down list (California compliant list I assume) when they look it up?

I remember when I was looking for a CZ Scorpion, a FFL close to me told me they couldn't do it because it was not on the drop down list and this was just a transfer from a shop in San Diego to Torrance, Ca. Also, when I first started looking for the CZ, I was told by Turners that the rifle had to be shipped to their store in Arizona (or maybe they had it there already) where it would be made California Compliant, then it would ship here.

Would it be safe to say that ANY rifle can be transferred/shipped as long as it's made California Compliant?

There's no list for rifles, only pistols. The criteria for center-fire semi auto rifles is that they need to either have a fixed magazine or be free of the "assault rifle " features like a pistol grip and flash hider. So yeah if it's a CA legal setup then any rifle is fine. But it's wayyyyyy easier and cheaper to just buy a lower and make it yourself. Another factor making it even cheaper is that you don't pay the 11% tax on anything but the lower.

Ruger pc carbine. Swap internal parts for metal aftermarket ones. Yikes I forgot the brand I got. Not mcarbo, but the other popular one. Parts cost me $80 last year during black Friday. It also takes Glock mags, if that helps your decision.

Or cz75 mags for that matter. There is a Canadian company that makes the adapter. Works great.

I mean I understand there must be triggers etc.... but what about everything else? Would you mind sharing the list of vendors ?

Don't listen to FFL's that don't know what they are talking about.
The "drop down list" is the handgun roster and only applies to handguns.

Those are AR based, though. Right? I understand that there are bunch ways you can build AR based 9 mm PCC. I thought you specifically talking about Scorpion build.

Yes, but it runs cool MP5 looking Scoprion mags.
And you could use a Maxim RDB buffer system in it to make it more like an MP5 than an AR.

I wasn't talking about a scorpion specifically but even a scorpion is basically "AR based" becuase it doesn't do anything different they just made it a funny shape with proprietary receivers. It uses a regular ty straight blowback system so you are just paying for the looks and not performance. If you want something that actually works differently and better you gotta go MP5, MPX, JP5 or for cheap the maxim roller delay which you can add to any carbine buffer tube.

Scorpion uppers are the serialized part unlike ARs. You can get lowers shipped home but uppers must go through an FFL.

There is 1 big downside to the wasr-m. The 9mm magwell adapter is made of a cheaper polymer opposed to like a magpul or glock, and can break over time.

It is proprietary and no one sells spares.

Yeh, seems like the only option for spare is import from Nova Modul in Romania; since century won’t sell replacements (at least to my knowledge with the cz scorpion magwell version). Only way to make it worth it is to buy two or with accesssories; if they even are willing to ship to the states.

I'm a fan of just running a standard lower with a colt mag adapter since it maintains all the functions of a standard ar15. I'm not sure what is or isn't allowed for IDPA though.

pretty sure that's fine, its ok in USPSA at least. I will say though that the adapters are the same price as a whole stripped lower so its hard to justify.
