There is 1 big downside to the wasr-m. The 9mm magwell adapter is made of a cheaper polymer opposed to like a magpul or glock, and can break over time.

It is proprietary and no one sells spares.

I have the Hi-Point 9mm PCC, Kalifornia model. Fun to shoot, accurate, reliable... sub $300 gun. Sure, lots of plastic, horrible trigger (fixed with an aftermarket spring). Put a cheap red dot on it & you have an awesome setup. Only down side is proprietary mags.

Ruger pc carbine. Swap internal parts for metal aftermarket ones.

Which specific parts did you get and swap into the PC carbine?

Recoil spring retainer was plastic, changed it.
I THINK the shock block bolt buffer has plastic parts, can't remember.
Plus I changed a few pins and also the extractor, it was so inexpensive to do, and easy. All Tandemkross parts.

Extractor, recoil spring and retainer, shock block bolt buffer, bolt head and extractor pins, and the receiver pins are what I changed out. $73 after shipping and tax.

Hey gents, thanks for all of the ideas. I used to have a AR PCC that I built with a 9mm Spikes Tactical lower (colt pattern mags) and a Foxtrot Mike side charging handle. The reliability wasn't great so I ended up selling it. I probably could have done more work to diagnose it but my concern is that if I get a lower from one person and and upper from another, I don't know who to point the figure at if its not working.

I'd prefer to buy something from the manufacturer just in case there are issues and I have to send it back. Given that, I would like to get something from a vendor that runs on Day 1.

I'm happy to look at the Ruger PCC but prefer something that looks a little cooler. If my budget is about $2K (plus or minus a little), that leads me to either the Ruger PCC, the Scorpion EVO, or something else in that price range.

Has anyone ever shot one of these:

You can't really get that here unless you go through a middle man to convert it to CA legal, hence the suggestion to buy a lower. Best bet is go to your local shops and see what they have converted already if you want to buy a complete, you are gonna spend twice as much though than if you put it together yourself. .

Ruger PC wouldn't even come close to $1,000 even after buying aftermarket parts.

I'm interested in getting into Pistol Caliber Carbines for fun shooting and maybe some competition (IDPA).

I've been looking at the following:

Scorpion EVO
Sig MPX
Springfield Saint Victor
Stribog SP9A3G

I have extra Colt 9mm SMG mags and extra Glock Mags (who doesn't).

Am I missing any? Any recommendations?

I recently have been interested in the PCC market.

Besides what you listed, S&W makes the Response and FPC in 9mm and 10mm. I really wanted the FPC, but I did not like how the fin grip was incorporated into the lower making it permanent. I recently received information that may put the FPC back in the mix.

I ended up purchasing the S&W Response and about an hour later purchased the CZ Scorpion (Magpul edition) 3+.

The Response has interchangeable magwells. It comes with a S&W and Glock, but I heard they also have a Sig one available. I do not own a single Glock so it really didn't matter to me, but the price difference between the S&W and Glock mags is significant. I ended up purchasing 5 Glock mags and installed the Glock magwell. Not much of an aftermarket for it currently, not sure if that will change over time. No sights come with it so I mounted a Holosun HE510C on a .95 pic riser mount, wish it could be taller, but way more comfortable than mounting straight to the factory pic rail. Also added a WPS adjustable sling and a linear comp and that's it. This is more of an AR style PCC

I also purchased a CZ 3+ Scorpion. Love this thing! Shoots dead accurate with little recoil. I've changed quite a few things on this. Even though it comes with sights, I added a Holosun HE515GM mounted on a Arisaka 1.93" riser, Timney trigger (one of the best upgrades), HBI Pro stock charging handle, Nexus complete enhanced bolt assembly, Nexus receiver shim and Strike Industries extended safety selector switch. It's a great shooter!

I like the Stribog from what I've seen, but haven't put eyes or hands on one. Is that model available for California?

According to their website and my conversation with them, WBT purchases the firearms outside of California, converts them to a California Legal configuration. You can pick them up at their store or they can ship to a local FFL. The challenge then is getting a local FFL who will do the transfer.

Ah ok. Yeah look for a home FFL, they will often do it for a much lower transfer fee. Sone FFLs want 125 bucks just to relieve a mail order transfer.

A lot of them hate doing it and charge insane amounts, I've seen as high as 250$. Those same FFLs also never have anything cool in stock...

Ruger PC Carbine, I've run thousands of rounds (lots of $$$) through mine, all kinds, steel case, aluminum case, etc. If the plastic buffer wears out, I'll just get Tandemkross or mcarbo.

My issues with transfer FFL's are three:

1. The larger dealers often discourage transfers or even accept them, particularly if it is a gun they have in stock or could order for you. Finding one who has reasonable costs can be difficult.

2. Some dealers are quicker than others. I don't really have the patience to wait 2-3 hours (as I have with some gun shops) for them to do my transfer with all of the other business they are doing.

3. I work a regular 9 AM to 5 PM office job and I often find it difficult to make it to a dealer in the middle of the day for a transfer.

The one I was using was right by my office and it was a 5-10 minute drive there and they were really efficient on the transfers. I could drive there during lunch and be back within the hour.

The Ruger is a great rifle but the options to tune the recoil to what you would want to run matches isn't there. matches require double taps as fast as you can pull the trigger so minimizing dot bounce is essential. It's not about "recoil" in the shoulder and everything about dot bounce. So to OP, whatever you choose should have recoil in mind and the best on that list is probably the sig MPX. A bunch of those other options are just as expensive but are just regular blowback and will feel no different than a 500 dollar aero epc with a 7 oz buffer.
