I have a buddy who attempted to DROS a 2nd gun 1 day short of the 30. It failed the DROS. Turner's told him he has to wait 30 more days now. He went to Sportsman's 2 days later, started a new DROS, and it was approved.

And when you get it, I recommend you have any FFL runs *any* DROS (even for one firearm) as 3-in-30 exempt.

I just bought four at Turners. The sales person ran the first three as normal and only the forth one as 3-in-30 exempt. The manager caught it and asked me if I had any DROS in the last 30 days. I told them I did. They had to cancel the first three and re-DROS them all as exempt.

Most of my regular FFL’s know me and just run them as exempt, even if it’s just one. Saves any potential hassle later.

Yeah I was so mad when I learned about that, lol because I never found any FFL selling them when I was active duty.

Had the same thing happen a few years ago,(Gun Broker purchase) I was all excited about picking up my pistol and showed up a day early and was declined or rejected or whatever they call it. Had to wait a full 30 days to re DROS the firearm...My FFL was cool enough to hold onto it for me until I came back to restart things. They could have just kicked it back to the seller as a no go. Ended up never bonding with it and sold it a year or so later.

It would have been nice if the FFL had noticed that I was early but ultimately it was on me not them...At least that's the way I feel about it

This was back in the 1 in 30 days, Before it became no limit and then switched to 3 in 30....Until that gets challenged and thrown out....then they'll try 5 in 30.....it never ends!

How? I would imagine that the system would deny an invalid sale? Do they just have a little box where they can check someone off as exempt or not and no one checks it?

Correct. They just mark it exempt and apparently there's only a few CADOJ inspectors for the entire state.

Some places only accept that exemption for C&R guns. Don’t seem to understand the “ collector” exemption

That's your best bet. I got burned by the DOJ while being bent over the pickle barrel by Kimber. I had a POS that Kimber couldn't fix, so we came to an agreement on another pistol from their line-up. They shipped it to my FFL, who then had to run all the paperwork to register the new serial number in my name. Coincidentally, I bought something else about a week later. That one got rejected. My FFL actually called on that one and tried to explain that the first gun was just a replacement for another gun that was registered to me. That got nowhere... the rule's the rule, and I had to wait to run the paperwork all over again.

Alright Y’all. I just spoke to the DOJ. The rejected DROS counts as 1 of 3 reseting the rolling calendar. Which means I can still pick up the rifle this week but it will be counted as 2 of 3 for the 30 day calendar.

I'm afraid the politicians goal in CA is total disarmament of the populas. They won't quit even if they are ordered to by the law. They'll just write new laws circumventing everything else. Sorry to be a downer but these guys appear relentless in their goals of no firearms in civilian hands.

Of course they are. This is why SCOTUS needs to get smart and start taking immediate challenges against legislation designed to circumvent prior rulings. The anti gun legislature know that they can tie up anything for 5 or more years waiting for appeals.
