I ran into some folks at Grid Iron, and he mentioned he was able to trade up a CZ TacSport 2 plus some cash for a DarkForge...

Which made me think, that's a great question to ask because I always wonder what you guys hook each other up with? I always hear about people getting amazing deals. It doesn't have to be you, it can be your buddy, but let me know what's the best deal you saw.

Did you pass it up or take it?

What did you miss out on?

A really clean P2000 with all the original stuff got listed for like $600 in sac and sold in less than one day. I was too slow

Best deal.. 3 1970’s rifles in good family care for $450. Semi auto tube mag .22LR (love), single shot breach lever .22LR (great shooter for teaching), and beautiful 30-30 Winchester lever action.

It depends on what you think is a good deal. I recently purchased a Staccato P with a comp barrel brand new for 3k. Considering what they are going for now I think I got a decent deal.

Saw my dream Atlas earlier this year. By the time I worked up the courage to talk to my wife about buying it, it was gone. Fortune favors the prepared

I usually pass on anything here because this sport/hobby is already expensive enough.

People I talk to at competitions usually pay the premium for their off-roster guns.
I’ve seen two Athena’s. Awesome guns , but at $8500 for a pistol , that’s half the price of installing a new heat pump system and ceiling cassettes in my house .

Suddenly a Shadow 2 seems less pricey.

I don’t really like to “deal” or haggle.

I know what I want and if folks are offering a reasonable price (by off-roster standards), are communicative and move quickly, I’m very happy.

The best price I got on something was a complete 10” Aero M4E1 Enhanced semi-auto pistol for $1200. We met up the day after I reached out. He said there was maybe 10rds through it but when I cleaned and lubed it appeared BNIB from factory.

But all the best stuff I have now came through here.

Missed out on DWX, Tac Sport 2, Atlas Titan, M&P Metal HD, SP-01 Tactical, P226 X5. Someone else got to them before me.

Eventually scored:
- Shadow 2 (BNIB)
- Prodigy 5”
- PRS AR-10 in 6.5 Creedmore with additional .308 upper

I've had a few deals come my way, and plenty more slip out of my hands. The most recent deal I missed was a little used Springfield Armory 1911 TRP, on consignment for $800. I was headed out the door and on my way when the store owner told me it was already sold! That one still hurts.

A memorable deal I had was my first milsurp rifle, a Swedish Mauser M/96. It was owned by a retired cop who was parting with his collection. I had never heard of a Swedish Mauser at the time, but after a weekend of internet research I figured they made great guns. What an understatement.

Well, he was selling the rifle for $450, and it would come with 120 rounds of m/41 swedish military ball, and 100 rounds of mixed vintage ammo. Considering what 6.5x55 swede goes for today, and vintage ammo at that, I got the rifle for very little. It was in excellent condition as he clearly took good care of it. It's non-matching (bolt and receiver match at least), but it shoots great and has become one of my favorite rifles to date. I often think about that older gentleman who decided to sell it to me, and I hope he's doing well.

I'm going through pictures and remembered another particularly painful deal I missed out on. This one was another 1911 on consignment, an older Springfield Armory that had been sent to a Brown's Guncraft. It had a host of things done to it: chromed frame, Bomar target rear,, ring hammer, upswept beaver tail grip safety, etc. Most notably, it had an island compensator installed and was a great example of a 80s-90s competition 1911, something I've been jonesing for the last two years.

Now the owner's friend had listed it on Calguns, along with a host of other guns as he was helping clear his collection. When I asked the price for it, my jaw just hung on the floor: it was $550! I mean, you can't even get a new Springfield Armory 1911 for $550 these days, not to mention one that's had all the bells and whistles of the 80s/90s competition scene. They didn't know what to make of the price, seeing as it had been customized, and the owner didn't give any input on it? I called up the gun store that had the gun, ready to claim it, when they told me it had already been sold a couple days after it entered the shop.

That one stings. And here I am, still on the lookout for a vintage comped 1911. Maybe I'll just send one out to a shop and build it out.
