What makes the Hi-Point 9TS Carbine illegal in Kalifornia?

There is a Ka version with a fin, but you also need to half take the gun apart to change mags?? What "features" are on this gun.... I only see the pistol grip & detachable mag?

im (now not so) pretty sure you are wrong about taking the gun apart on the CA version. pretty sure the CA version is fingrip and that's about the only difference

as I recall, taking the hi point carbine apart is sorta not that easy (not like cracking an AR open for instance)

edit: maybe im wrong, and now the hi point CA version comes with a mag lock, but with a fin grip there's no reason the magazine cant be detachable

I’ve got a HiPoint 40 S&W carbine.

Fin grip and you’re good to go. One of my favorite rifles.

I’ve got two HiPoint carbines, one in 9mm and other in 45ACP. Fin grip is the only thing on them and the mags are removeable with the push of a button.

By the way...they both run great..no issues

This is incorrect. Threaded barrels are not restricted on rifles, only handguns. Now if you put a flash hider on the threads, then it would be illegal with a detachable magazine. All of this is in the Penal Code. Just read it.

Then I can't figure out why Hi-Point would completely redesign the mag release on a CA "compliant" rifle?

Next question is would a Ca dealer accept a shipment of a "non-Ca" rifle, add a fin & DROS it?

No, they have to be made into a CA legal configuration before transfer.

Thats what a middleman FFL is for. EBR Works in AZ is one of the best. They’ve got me a bunch of interesting items over the years.

California compliant design prevents the magazine release button from being engaged while fully assembled, locking the magazine into the receiver. To release the magazine from the rifle, the shooter will be required separate the upper from the lower by pulling on an extended (rear) takedown pin with an attached cord to make the process easier. Once the magazine has been released the rifle can be re-assembled and shot once again.

Pretty sure this is just plain wrong. I see no evidence of this anywhere else on the net, and not a single pic to back it up.

Ive seen a lot of inaccurate item info on Sportsman's Warehouse website, I would take anything read there with a large grain of salt and look it up using the MPN

Circling back to this... the mag drops with a push button like every other model... fin is only Kalifornia feature.
