Did anyone also start buying clothing to work around their pistols/holsters too when carrying?

That added cost later too because I noticed the XXS or XS uni-qlo collared cotton polo shirt that has shrunk in the dryer really caused me to print; and when grabbing items at the grocery store at top aisle, I need to pull down on the bottom of my shirt. I noticed I needed to start buying size small clothing. Found some baggier collared polo small size shirts at GaP, luckily they were having a sale during that time; trying on different shirts in the dressing room, moving my body in different positions in the mirror, taking selfies at different angles, and seeing if I could notice a bulge.

If the discussion doesn’t have some reasonable guard rails, then you have to include potential bail money and attorney costs which might be incurred.

Holsters, clothes, belts, ammo are ongoing operational costs and not direct costs of obtaining a CCW.

What do you mean online, you have to qualify

Hansen runs a hybrid program. Classes at home, then range day.

(Not sure how they work proving you had 16 hrs of training).

Hansen's online training has about 14.5 hours of video broken up into modules to watch at your pace with a few quizzes in between specific modules. Then 1.5 hours of in person classroom before heading to the range to qualify. You can NOT fast forward through the videos nor can you minimize the screen or browse other windows. If you do, the video and progress will stop until you hit play to continue. Kind of like online traffic school. You can walk away from your computer while it's playing but you may miss some material that is in the quizzes. I did a couple hours a day heading up to my qualification date. You basically book your qualification date ahead of time and finish the online training before that. The price and convenience was worth the drive to Orange County from Torrance.

I buddy was at a local gun store and the owner told him "It costs over $2,000 now to get a CCW". Mine was two years ago and I don't think it was that much. The owner also told him "You now have to pay out of pocket for a phycological evaluation". That doesn't seem right either.

Curious what the costs are now:

• Live Scan = $
• Application fees $
• 2-Day Training = $
• Other = $

These prices were from 2023, and I may be off a few give or take

• Live Scan = $100
• Application fees $135
• 2-Day Training = $150
• Other = $400, this is for the phyc eval. In December of 2023 it cost $150, then I got an email informing me that the price went up
• Approximate total $800 +

I am not complaining because when I applied in 2013 I paid similar (probably closer to $1000) and was denied because of a lack of a good cause (I.e. before the Supreme Court decision that has made getting a CCW in blue counties easy).

How much does it cost? It cost way too much. It should be free. It’s an inalienable right and an enumerated right just like the right to attorney or healthcare, The state should be furnishing us with guns.


I think my costs were about $750 in training and licensure fees. Had to buy a gun. I think that was about 500 bucks and probably spent three or $400 probably more than that finding a suitable holster. And then I gotta pay. I don’t know a couple hundred bucks every other year for recertification.

You would agree CCW insurance is a direct cost? $400 a year for AOR (Attorney's On Retainer)

Perhaps discretionary cost would have been more appropriate. But one can obtain an CCW without the cost of insurance. Would we also include the cost of night sights; a gun light; a red dot?

A bit of clarification. While I don’t completely disagree with you, your citation of the 1967 Mulford Act associating it with Concealed Carry in CA is incorrect.

The Mulford Act affected only Loaded Open Carry. It was, indeed, targeted on the Black Panthers and their patrolling of Oakland’s streets which culminated in their “armed invasion” of the Capitol when Mulford was being enacted. But it did not impact loaded concealed carry in the state.

Licensed loaded concealed carry has been in force since 1923. In truth, that early CCW prohibition was targeted against Chinese Tong gangs and, “…vendettas among our people who are of latin descent.”

The Mulford Act pushed public carry into the concealed arena which was tightly regulated.

It’s a fascinating history, but with more accurate reporting, more suited to it’s own thread.
