Went up to Lone Pine Pheasant Club today...

And we had a great time.

Arrived there before 8AM, refilled our coffee cups and a little while later stepped out on the front porch of the clubhouse.



Then we walked thru the gate and started hunting.



The weather cooperated and it was an absolutely beautiful day.

We harvested 11 out of the 12 pheasants.
Never located the 12th bird.

This is the view to the NW from the club.



It was quite a fun day.

I have always found the hens to hold better on the planted hunts up at Etawanda Hunt Club. The Chucker they get seem to hold well too.

We hunted behind a black lab that will be 3 next month.

Sounds like fun! I kill plenty of ducks every year but have never really got into the pheasant thing.

Watching the dog (or dogs) work the field for pheasant, chukar or quail is a thing of beauty.
There's nothing quite like it and it's a lot of fun.

Bob, love watching my new 18 month old GSP point and retrieve. Stupid high energy/absolute sweetheart 55 pound lap dog. He loves his Golden brothers, and hunts well with them too:

That's a nice looking group of dogs. Always happy to see dogs that have a good home and are well cared for.

This late in the season, the tail feathers are pretty beat up.
I remembered you wanted some, but they didn't look very good.
Next time I'm around some decent ones, I'll get them.

I don’t know about quail but on ducks, turkeys or geese, we use the primary wing feathers in pairs, so perhaps the outside 4 feathers from each side so I can pair up the first feathers and then the 2nd feathers etc…

No dire need.
I have a couple duck feather pairs already.
A pair of feathers makes a lot of flies when you are only using 5 fibers from each side for each fly.
