Well, another one of my Mark 4 scopes needs to get sent to Leupold. I have a 2.5-8 x 36 M2 on my Mk12 Mod 0 that I shot this week-end's XTC match at MCB Camp Pendleton. Erector is suddenly "lazy", I put my elevation at 600 in and it takes a couple of rounds to rise up and settle. Go to 300yd line and it takes a couple rounds to settle. Afterwards went to the 100yd range and checked with a box test and windage was ok, just elevation erector acting up.
I have/had a handful of Mk 4's over the years and all except for one (16X M1) they've had something needing attention. Granted, they were all used and had a few years (dozens maybe) on them. None seemed abused. One was also elevation/tracking issue, another was the zoom got gritty, another the windage wasn't tracking evenly. Luckily the Leupold warranty service is pretty good, turn-around time is decent and it's back in my hands in 3-4 weeks.
I use the turret knobs pretty regularly on all these scopes shooting F-class or NRA Midrange, so they will eventually need service. I guess maybe I should send a scope in for "check-up" when I get it instead of waiting for a problem to develop.
I wonder if there is a suggested service/check-up interval for scopes? I guess I'll ask the Leupy technician for their input.
I'll use this excuse to show off the assorted Mk 4 scopes I still have:
