I'm pretty sure with an optic on, you'll end up looking right past the lci and never even notice it. On the other hand, you'll probably need to remove it to run something that hangs over like the RMR HD or SRO.

The worst thing about the LCI on the M&Ps is that when you get the optic cut it has to be removed and you have a huge hole. The PDPs are optic ready so I'm fairly agnostic about the LCI and more stoked that there will be optic ready pistols for ~650. The fact that M&Ps aren't optic ready makes them cost a LOT more than a Walther, which is kinda F-ed up

I have a PDP compact on 10-day wait. Early thoughts based on dry fire in the store:

• The LCI is better done than some, the text is of modest size and not bright white;
• The magazine disconnect appears to be a little over-engineered, but does not seem to degrade trigger quality in any way. Basically the cylinder rolls out of the way, and does not seem to contact the trigger if the magazine is in place. Because the PDP needs a trigger pull before takedown (like a Glock), the sequencing of when to drop the mag may be a bit of a dance... it needs to be in for the trigger pull, but presumably out to remove the slide. Some seem to be obsessing about how to remove the mag disconnect but I really don't care as long as it doesn't degrade trigger quality and Walther seems to have gotten this part right. It still is a light, crisp break.
• Usually I'm a fan of paddle release, but I can use the button mag release on the PDP to drop a mag without shifting my grip at all. Much better than a lot of the competition in that sense.
• The price is reasonable, $649 for mine. So basically I can buy about 1.5 of these for the anticipated cost of a VP9. Maybe more importantly it's optic ready, so only a little more expensive than a gen 3 Glock in base form, and no need to then have it milled or buy a spare MOS slide.
• Ergonomics seem excellent.
• Optics ready out of the box and actually available on some store shelves is a big plus. Not a lot of other duty-sized options out there yet in CA.

Will have it in hand and then to the range in an about a week. The auto-response from Walther says I should expect to receive my one free optics plate in about 14-21 days, so the initial testing will be with iron sights.

It took like a week and a half to get my plate (received a week ago). it's coming out of umarex in arizona. The 'walther' logo was backwards facing away from the shooter and I thought that was dumb. Makes me think that it was made by umarex

If you remove the CLI and get this optic plate, it might stop the gasses from fouling the optic. Looks like could hide the writing.

I've been told that the Walther/Umarex plates are steel, is that correct? It's a little disappointing that most of the aftermarket plates appear to be aluminum, given a choice I prefer steel.
