Walther PDP full size and compact added to the roster 4/9/25

Riflegear and Turners have a pic that seems to show a little red LCI sticking up above the chamber. But it doesn't show a manual safety. Is that possible? No thumb safety?

it's a striker fire ala the vp9. trigger safety. the thing that was rumored is that after the VP9, the powers that be weren't jazzy on the LCI the VP9 used otherwise it uses a trigger safety so that seems GTG--also see the new Canik's. you dont seem to need a manual safety Ala p365

It'll just foul the glass on your optic because of the stupid notch in the barrel. I'm sure someone will come out with a plug for that though like with the Sigs.

I'm glad to see the PDP on the list. Plugging the LCI channels will help but, if optic glass is close to the breech face, it's going to get gassed no matter what.

If it's like the Shield Plus LCI, you can remove the LCI blade and file it down so it sticks up way less when loaded.

I’m more curious as to how it impacts rumored future guns. Like the stac hd the presumed re release of VP9a1. CC9 etc

The PDP's CLI isnt a deal breaker for me. Its not as obnoxious as the P226/P229 and S&W's M&Ps. CLIs are a standard feature on many guns: Caniks, the 97B, the XD, and the Luger P08 to name a few. Even though the CLI is completely useless and totally unnecessary it does seem like a feature that is simple, cheap, and easy to implement. Im hoping the mag disconnect is removeable but again S&W has been using them for decades, even the oft fawned over BHP has one, so it's not a deal breaker for me either. None of these "safety" requirements are new to gun designing. A CLI was on the first 9mm semiauto pistol ever designed. Still they are stupid and unnecessary and the intent is clearly to deny 2A rights by restricting access by any means necessary.

Looking forward to seeing the PDP in a shop. Walther does magazine rebate deals so I'll wait for that to buy one.

I tried a 5' PDP Walther at Iron Mikes - I think it might have been the Match? It was awesome. I lost all interest in the HK VP9L after that haha.

The worst thing about the LCI on the M&Ps is that when you get the optic cut it has to be removed and you have a huge hole. The PDPs are optic ready so I'm fairly agnostic about the LCI and more stoked that there will be optic ready pistols for ~650. The fact that M&Ps aren't optic ready makes them cost a LOT more than a Walther, which is kinda F-ed up
