Vanguard 7mm-08 to?

Hi all,
I've tried to sell a rifle chambered in 7mm-08 but found no interest. Its a nice rifle so I thought I many just rechamber it into something different. Its a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter (Howa 1500) and I would like a rifle in 280AI, but that's a long action. Maybe a 6.8 Western or 270WSM, short action but bolt face change would be needed. I've changed the bolt face on a Savage but I don't think the Weatherby/Howa's bolt faces are interchangeable, does anyone know who sells complete bolts? Anyone swap bolts on a Weatherby/Howa? Since I have to headspace when swapping the barrel I don't think it will be an issue but...

Or maybe I just rebarrel it in a 6CM and keep my bolt face.

7mm-08 is a great hunting cartridge why not just keep it in the quiver?

Besides a larger boltface (which will be very difficult to obtain), you also need to change the underside of the receiver to feed fatter cartridges unless you also go to a detachable box setup at the same time.
I vote for rebarrelling to 6 creedmoor as it works through your existing receiver/magazine/bolt.

Maybe a stale thread, but I would advise to go ahead and do a 6.5CM since it is such a popular cartridge these days. The magnum cartridges would appeal to a smaller number of shooters, but those are both interesting cartridges. You might even want to keep it if you don't already have one. Good luck with your 280AI quest, its also a great long range cartridge.

Yeah either 6.5 cm or if you want a 6mm then a 6 dasher/bra/gt. 6cm is unnecessary and will just burn your barrel out sooner and use more expensive powder.

You are assuming he reloads.
Ever see 6dasher/bra/gt ammo for sale in a gun store?
Turners sells 6mm Creedmoor.
I went looking on MidwayUSA and they have exactly one option for 6gt but they have twenty options for 6mm Creedmoor.
Targetsports lists 23 options for 6mm Creedmoor and none for gt or bra.
Targetsports even has 3 options for 6XC that you left out in your list of alternative 6mm cartridges.

I literally can't imagine not reloading at this point, any quality ammo is 2 bucks a shot so at that point you should find a different hobby

Nationwide, it's likely less than 5% of gun owners that actually reload ammo.
So figure than 1 in 20 reloads.
This leaves us with 19 out of 20 gun owners that either don't shoot at all, or buy factory ammo.
95% participation in any market makes a very strong market and the fact there are so many companies selling ammo tells us that he market for factory produced ammo is strong.

Also, other sources show that it could be around 2% which gets us to 1 reloader per 50 gun owners.

Most gun owners don't shoot their guns. But I can load match grade 6.5 creedmoor for 70 cents. You can pay for a 1000$ reloading setup in the first 1000 rounds, like 5-10 range trips. That said, the original poster said they wanted a rifle in 280ai so it's safe to say they reload.

I would say that wanting an ai cartridge does not guarantee that a person reloads IF its an ai cartridge that is SAAMI standardized and has wide factory ammo availability like the 280ai.

How about a factory 280ai rifle?
