Trijicon SRO vs 507 Comp vs 507 PROMAX

Gonna be personal preference but I’m very interested in seeing a Promax. Big Ben gave it his seal of approval and a bigger window can’t hurt.
 
What's the use case? I'd say just grab whatever you can find for a good deal or cheapest as if I wanted to swap to the promax, I'd just wait for the Promax Ti that should release around Shotshow this year hopefully. Less unncessary features, thinner bezel, stronger material, etc.

I like them because they are the best for my eyes, the only one that looks like a dot. I also like the DPP footprint because it's narrower than RMR so narrow slides like czs and 1911s can be direct mount with no plate. I believe sig.also uses DPP by default so if you are getting a sig precut slide it should fit right on. They are also cheaper than all of your options.

Then yah, whatever works best for your eyes and you can find cheapest. Try to find a LGS that has them all and drop in to look through them and the various color options they might offer to see what works best.

Comp usage also is affected by your intended disciple and what kind of common lighting conditions and target distances pop up as you may want to adjust your MOA size based on that. But, do what works for you.


Holosuns are the most popular, promax is the largest usable window by far but relatively less tested at higher round counts, vortex has an unbeatable warranty but seems to have more issues than most other large optic manufacturers in the higher tiers for handgun optics, and trijicon is proven but expensive for what it is and the tech is pretty old (if it ain't broke, don't fix it?). They all have some strengths and weaknesses - so that's why I say try to get actual eyes on them/through them first.
 
I have the 507comp green on a 2k11 and Rival s. The sro green on an Athena and the XL in green on the second Rival s. All three are great. The SRO appears to have slightly less bloom but other than that I wouldn't have an issue just buying holosuns in the future due to savings and the adjustability of the reticle. I don't find myself adjusting it anymore but would sometimes change for steel challenge or a stage or two depending on setup. SRO 2.5 is great though and it can 'increase' with brightness and still look like a dot and not a star. The defender recently started appearing to have issues, almost like the dot would die then reappear without movement at times. Before that it was great and could simply be the battery needs changing but I haven't been using that Canik so can't say either way currently. Biggest downside of that optic is the different footprint.
All three windows are definitely big enough for competition and shouldn't be an issue. I don't see a need to buy a promax for a wider window on any of my current competition guns.

X2. I have 2 defender XL's, one on my 226 x5 and my 226 scorpion. I put a well used SRO on my X5 first and the profile sits too far forward and got a few dings on the front of the housing from hot brass plus the glass got dirty fast. I love the SRO, so it went back on my 320 legion (I am keeping it no matter what). The Vortex defender is a really nice option, probably the best for a 226, the dot is really clear and it fits like a glove, low mount and mimics iron sights closer in height than an SRO.

507 Comp. It’s cheaper than an SRO, and it’s much easier to turn off and on, change brightness levels, and change batteries on. Plus, I like the circle-dot option. I’ve also had two SROs crap out on me, but I’ve never had a problem with a 507 Comp. The ProMax would be great on a PCC, but I think it’s is too big for a pistol.
