Tikka T3X Roughtech Sling Stud

I just got a T3X Roughtech and would like to run a bipod (MDT Oryx) along with a sling but out of the box it only has the front and rear studs; but has a place to reposition the stud. These are both machine screw brass inserts the studs thread into.

Does anyone know a good source to pick up another swivel stud? The OEM parts are $22/set of 2 and even then nobody has them in stock.

A little annoyed there's a swivel stud threaded hole but they just made a low profile screw to fill its location instead of including a second stud on the forend.

There are 10-24 and 10-32 sling studs commonly available.
If it's metric, it could be be machined out and a different size thread insert made for it to take a standard stud.

Couldn't for the life of me find any info on the thread pitch. I'll have to pull my thread checker from my office shop. I know Tikka's can be metric or imperial/standard so unsure if its compatible with the replacements I'm likely to find at say, brownells.

I looked around the web and the Tikka comes up as being M5.
M5 is only slightly bigger than a US #10 screw so it's possible to drill out the M5 threads and put in a #10-32 helicoil so standard US studs could be used.
You could also take an M5 socket head cap screw and re-shape the head into the shape of a swivel stud and cross drill it for the bipod to attach assuming you are talking about a typical bipod that attaches to a sling swivel.

I don't know if brownells has metric sling studs but all standard ones are going to be #10-32 and occasionally #10-24 but the #10-24 are becoming much more rare as USA manufacturers seem to have standardized on #10-32.

That MDT sling swivel is likely going to be #10-32 thread as that's what the MDT Oryx chassis uses.

If the M5 threaded insert is short, you can try simply screwing a 10-32 stud into it.
#10 is slightly smaller than M5 and the thread pitches are very close so sometimes, you can thread 10-32 into an M5 threaded hole.
The thread fit won't be right, but it might work.

What about using those holes to mount an Arca plate and using an Arca bipod? You can move the sling stud to the rear hole and use a screw in the front hole. Arca is much better than sling stud for bipod use and also opens you up to tripods

I did think about it but ARCA also brings a little bit of weight I'm hoping to avoid.

Sure enough, M5x0.8. Just went over it with calipers and a thread gauge.

I think I'll keep trying to source an M5x0.8 stud but may take the 10x32 route if it becomes cost prohibitive.

Weirdly, https://www.tacticalworks.com/sling-swivel-stud-for-oryx-chassis.html this page indicates the MDT thread is M5x0.8 so that might be an option after all. I'll pester them and ask.

Also try contacting Beretta or whoever owns Tikka, they may send you one if you say it fell out or never came with one.
