There's quail in the hills and valleys

Warm, dry scenting conditions (and the spooky birds running 100+ yards ahead of us) were not optimal for man nor beast (the dog).
Hunted 3 big coveys, they saw us coming and they had a huge heard start.
They wouldn't let us get close to them.
Lot's of hail Mary shots, knocked a few down, but rarely found them.
Don't ask about the hit to miss ratio....
Probably an even split, 3 birds shot going after the covey and 3 stragglers shot on the way back to the Jeep.
I was a little surprised to see that they were all males.
5 hours of boots on the ground (not to mention the driving hours) later...

To have mountain and valley quail on the ranch I hunt . Too bad I wound be able to get to my quail spots for the next few months with the rain we just got the ranch saw 15inches last week .
