Has anyone here attended one of their events? My brother lives 30 min from the South Carolina facility so we plan on teaming it in May. Was curious about gear and a few other questions. Thanks

I've done 5 TTG regional events since 2023. For gear have a plate carrier with plates that total 15 pounds. You need a belt and holster that can keep your pistol secure during movement. If your pistol falls out it's a DQ.

For pistol you can have a red dot and I highly recommend one if you don't have one already.

You'll also need a way to have 5 pistol and 5 rifle mags on you. Not every stage requires you to have all 5 and 5 on you. You can have a mix of mag pouches on your PC or belt.

For rifle you can have a scope and a canted or piggyback red dot. The most important part of the rifle is that you have a flash hider. You cannot have a muzzle brake or any comps. Just stick to a regular A2 birdcage so it's straightforward at gear inspection. I've personally seen people turned away because they didn't read the rules.

For footwear I suggest trail shoes for good grip on the dirt. Clothing wise wear tops and bottoms that can move with you.

Overall don't break the bank on gear. Go with what you got and if you decide TTG is for you then you can use your first match to iterate on gear upgrades.

I appreciate the advice! Good to know..looks like all the gear is squared away. Just need to do some practice runs at the range now. How was nutrition and hydration for you? And how about the physical side and stages..anything you wish you did different or practiced more?

Forgot to mention gear at camp. When you park at the event you can set up camp with a pop up, tables, chairs and coolers. If I have room I like to bring a zero gravity chair to lie back and rest between stages. You might have hours between stages to eat, clean your weapons and rest. Depending on weather you might bring more shade or mister for hot days or warmers for cold days. At Reno this year it was a high of 40 so we were chilled to the bone. We boiled water to have Ramen and ate inside the truck which was a relief. Also bring a wagon to bring your gear to each stage from camp.

Make sure to have water, electrolytes and food. I brought some nutrition strategies from my Ultra and OCR days with easily digestible food like apple sauce pouches. I do recommend having something for lunch but they also have onsite food trucks.

PT wise when I started I was in Ultra training mode so I had more running mileage. After that I went back to doing more strength work with deadlifts, grip and moving with weight. If I were to summarize how to train it would be all around cardio, strength and endurance but all with an emphasis on moving with weighted implements like sandbags, sandballs and axle bars. Use your first TTG to figure out how to tune your training.

A strategy to use when combining physical work with shooting is to go to 80% instead of red lining. If you go all out then your shooting accuracy will suffer. Leave some buffer to transition between the work and shooting to bring your heart rate down.

For a simulated TTG stage you can do the Burpees for Bullets stage. Do 3 to 10 hand release burpees, load the mag with however many burpees you did then shoot rifle. Repeat but then on the even number of rounds do pistol.

If you are in the SoCal area shoot me a DM and come train with my group. A bunch of us here do TTG and go out to the range.

Man you're awesome! Lot of great info. I'm expecting hot and humid for this one. Since I'll be flying there and packing minimal, may just do my usual 1-2 carne asada burritos from the closest taqueria for food and a gallon of water. I'll up my weighted cardio at work too on top of the Street Parking program I follow and I'll try that Burpees for Bullets next time I'm at the range, sounds like fun.

NorCal here, I appreciate that invite though! Same offer to you if you're ever up here.
