Targets for Rimfire shooting

Recommendation for good targets for plinking out to about 100 yards. It would be nice if the base is stable and/or can be dug into the ground with ease.

Note pricing is for the pair of brackets. No targets, wood or rebar is included in pricing. My pricing maybe be a bit higher. I prefer to use solid material for the legs compared to using pipe like other designs.

1/2” or 3/4” rebar make the legs which don’t take up much space in a truck bed or storage. A 2”x4” is the cross bar . eBay has cheaper ones you can use light gauge pipe or wood to make the bar and legs.

If you have a skill saw or chop saw and a drill , it’s pretty easy to make target stands out of scrap wood. If you make the base out of 4”x4”’s or doubled up 2”x4”’s , it’s heavy enough you don’t need stakes and the wind won’t knock it over. There are a bunch of You Tube vids on how to . Even if you buy lumber , it’s half the price of a lighter weight store bought stand.

Caveat: this only works if you have a yard or garage for storage

I use roaside campaign signs. Free after election day. Slap a shoot-n-C target on them and blast at democrats. Easy put in, easy take out. Much lighter than dragging a heavy plate a couple hundred yards.

Soft drink cans. They're free and they react when you hit them. They're WAY more fun than shooting a sheet of paper.

I am currently using Atlas Target Works targets and stands for the NRL22 matches.

1/4" SR500+: Rimfire Targets (.17 HMR, .22LR)

I use the stand with the base legs as opposed to staking into the ground. My only complaint with the Atlas Target Works stands is that the legs are secured by default with cotter pins which tend to come off in use because of bullet ricochet strikes. I've been using wire ties to keep them in place, but this makes them less easy to tear down if you want to tear them down for transport (I keep these stands at the range, so it's not an issue for me).

I used to use JC Steel Targets for NRL22, with home made wood bases so we don't have to hammer the stands into the ground. Putting target stands into the ground gets tedious every match which is why I prefer just stands with legs.

It's election season. Free targets are located on the sides of the road. Pick them up after election day, slap a Shoot-n-C target on them and blast away.

I have a bunch of Blue Steel Targets for regular target shooting, but for .22 I ordered some Caldwell rimfire spinner targets off Amazon that you stake into the ground and spray paint something visible. Cheap, simple and very effective. It's just for .22 so it doesn't need to be AR500 quality steel.

• Scrap 2x4s from Home Depot or other hardware store that offers it

Make the legs as tall as you want. When the wood gets shot out, change it. Sawhorse brackets allow for easy takedown/setup.

I use this unit. Very compact (legs fit in the shipped “tube” and the targets I just bungee together. You can pic the sizes. Super stable and no need to stick in the ground.

Dueling trees are cool, no doubt. In the context of rimfire though, IMO, don't think it's a good option; not enough power to flip the paddles.

Each grid is 1 inch. You can see through with an optic instead of walking down range. For example if you are zero’ed for 50 yards; you can test holdovers or optic holdover marks at 100 yards and keep track a little easier?

Know your limits stuff is fun with rimfire is one of my favorites. The same size targets get harder and harder when you just add more distance.

I build my own targets. On this one the target sizes are 1" and 3/4" square, 5/8", 1/2", and 3/8" round.
I shoot this at 50 yards. A solid hit on the round targets will spin them around .



This one has 3" circles, I shoot this from 50-100 yards.



The squares on the spinner are 1-1/2 ", shot from 50-100 yards.
The circles are 4" and 5 ", shot from 100 to 200 yards.
