Talk me OUt of it: CZ 452 vs CZ 457... or talk me into it!

I love my 452 Varmint in .17 HMR. I had to return my first one to CZ USA as it had a headspace issue - fired cases looked like round head screws. They replaced the rifle with one that had a very nicely figured stock. The curious thing was that the first one was very accurate, despite the headspace problem, with 17 gr bullets. The second one would not shoot 17 gr bullets of any brand into less than about 2 inches at 100 yards. But it would shoot the Hornady 20 gr ammo into 5/8" for five shot at 100 yards. It also shoots the CCI Green bullet ammo very well.

So I've been wanting to get a 22lr bolt action rifle for mainly bench shooting. Since I'm one of "The Poors", I don't want to spend a lot of money... but I do like my quality and then add that I'm a CZ fan boy (pistol wise). So I'm thinking of picking up a used CZ 452 in part because it's about 60%-70% the price of a brand new base model CZ 457 (I rarely see these used).

So... other than money, why would you get the 452 over the 457?
What's wrong with either model?
What do you find perfect about either model?

Now here's the real kicker, Royal Tiger Imports has used Ethiopian BRNO MOdel 2's for $250 right now (with tax, shipping and FFL fees I'd be in for about $350-375). From the very few reviews I can find, they all simply say that you're in for a lot of cleaning, but the bores are good... the stocks are OK, and you'll spend a bit of time cold blueing them again. How stupid would it be for me to get one of these?

PS- I'm giving you permission to be blunt concerning the RTI part of this (I'm an adult after all and should know better concerning RTI purchase)

Very happy with my used CZ 455 .22WMR and would recommend same. I see the primary benefit of the 457 as the shorter bolt throw than the 455 or the 452. The longer bolt throw is only a problem if you have a big optic and who really needs a big optic of a .22? It seems like there are a lot of well cared for used CZ rifles out there.
With the Ethiopian CZ BRNO Model 2, you are stuck with iron sights and the poor prior maintenance of a former military weapon. Stay with a previously loved and sparingly shot US consumer model 452 or 455.

You are having issues swapping barrels on the 457 and CZ not responding to you, at least AR15barrels provided a solution (as usual). Realistically I would recommend to have it done by a competent gunsmith to check headspace, etc; unless you have the equipment and skill to do it. I think the reality is a bit more involved than the expectation they create of it being a very simple process. I originally thought it would be a simple process to swap calibers, but it turned out to be more involved than expected.

I have been very happy with my 457 varmint 22LR, accurate and no issues. It is really hard to beat at the price point, especially with a nice wood stock.

The only thing i dislike is the 10 round Steel CZ Factory mags are unobtanium despite still being manufactured. Street Price (ebay, gb, classified web online, etc) runs about $100-120 per mag. Possibly making it one of the most expensive still produced mags.

Luckily none of yall noticed the 3 - 10 round CZ Steel mags that was listed few days ago here, which I was able to buy for the price of 1 Street Priced mag.

Can't talk anyone out of a CZ 4xx series. Have a 452 Varmint and what a tack driver. Really fun gun to shoot and came with really nice turkish walnut stock.

Update - I ended up picking up a fairly abused BRNO mod 2, liked it a bit and then found a BRNO mod 4 Lux Mi.

I keep thinking of getting something 457, but I just bought a condo so I'm too poor to think about it. Plus that BRNO mod 4 needs my attention...

CZ 457. You can buy it in parts if necessary. All end user customizable. Barrel, Chassis/Stock, Trigger, etc. You can branch into ANY discipline from the 457 platform.

I have a CZ 457 Manners MTR and an Anschutz 1727F.
the F is the more accurate gun but not 4k more accurate. It is PERFECT out of the box.

457 did require some changes for me.
Things you should be aware of:
1. Replace the plastic magwell with a billet l3i unit
2. Don't cheap out on your rail. Area 419 is where it's at.
3. Trigger can be enhanced with cheap cost effective springs BUT Just get the Timney and be done with it.
4. Buy 10rd Steel mags

If you do only those 4 things to a "heavier" barrel variant of the 457 you will be most of the way there.

If money is the issue piece part it.
