Switching from p365 to HK P2000SK v3

The 365 never had issues. All the problems were from the 320. I used to carry a p2000sk, but sold it when I got a shield plus. It's a great gun, a bit on the chunky side, but it never gave me any problems.

I think the HK P2000SK is one of the best carry guns they make. If we could get the P30SK in CA I'd recommend that as a more modern alternative but it is not on the roster. I like my P2000SK because I can thumb over the hammer when I reholster - just a little extra safety feature in my mind. Also, I think you'll find that the P2000 is a touch more reliable than the modern, striker-fired Sigs. - that last part may bother some folks though..

I love my 365. I even put an RMRcc on it. I surprise myself regularly with it. It's a great little pistol. All that said, I just can't bring myself to carry it. I have the same striker fired hang up. I put my P2000sk on my permit this time around. Mine has been changed to a LEM trigger, "4.1" I think it's called. It keeps the de-er intact. I'm thinking about getting a P2000 in .40sw to carry as well. My only hangup with the HK's are slide milling for optics. I've come to love the red dots. As soon as I can find someone to do the milling, I'll have dots on them all.

Over the years I have owned and carried two different HK2000SK and while I really liked them I never kept them more than a few years. Nothing bad to say about them. Just a good solid pistol.

yeah looking at that. but a bit pricey given a p2000 is not selling for 600 or so in CA. the idot is almost 500 and thats before you add in the optic

Carried a Glock (CCW) for many years . No Glock leg or any issues and I carry in a Smartcarry. Now, I recently picked up a Sig P365X and carried it cocked but unloaded just to see how it would do in my daily life. It didn't go off on its own no matter what position I was in so its good to go for rounds in the chamber.
I think every manufacturer has had issues with one model or another in their lifetime. Would be hesitant to own one but not write off the entire manufacturer because of it.

To pile on, the P320 seems unsafe, and I agree you shouldn't CC it. However, those problems aren't seen with the p365. Other problems such as rust are present, but it shouldn't go off on its own. I'm leery of Sig as a company since there seem to be way more issues with them than other similar manufacturers, but if you got a p365 without issues, you probably shouldn't be concerned. If you want a similar slim pistol not made by sig, you could always check out the Shield Plus, Max 9, or the Hellcat/HCP. The Canik Mete MC9 was also added to the roster recently so we should be seeing them next year.

That said, there's something to be said about feeling more comfortable about CCing a hammer fired gun since you can see and feel the hammer instead of just a "black box" of a striker fired gun, especially during reholstering. If you can stomach (haha) the width of the P2000, it should be excellent.

Again, got both. P2000sk with gray guns flat trigger and short reset and a Springfield trigger job. It’s a SWEET shooter (i use regular size Mags and a x grip on the magazine. I like shooting it more BUT it’s def way chonk vs the p365 and the p365 is what i actually mostly carry. Like 99
% of the time. Never had an issue since i got it. Ok that’s a lie. I had one issue. I didn’t torque the optic screws down enough initially and the optic went flying into my forehead when i first shot it with an optic……whoops

For me if I appendix carry I want a DA/SA or a striker with a manual safety.
I did this to my P2000 and I love her now. I have the gray guns short reset kit, an 11llb lazy wolf hammer spring, and a light trigger spring as well.

Agreed and I own a P2kSK with the IDot. Unless you’re desperate for a hammer HK I’d buy the VP9SK OR. The only reason I see going with a P2kSK or P30SK over a VP9SK is if you want to shoot IDPA BUG since the VP9SK is slightly too big for that division.

the short reset is easy. the trigger is a pain in the ass. it's conceptually simple, but actually getting the spring back into place sucks. and I even have the little trigger spring forcep/pliers thing and it still sucked

I just started jail on a P2000SK at Turner's (I know.... but they are having a sale that even my garage FFL guy said he couldn't beat, and he beats everything). I am switching from the p365 and sacrificing a little size for that long, heavy DA first pull on the SA/DA HK (Specifically did not want the LEM version for that one reason). I have had this constant nagging feeling with the striker fire sig pointed at my junk all day after watching some hit pieces on youtube regarding sig...., and coincidentally we sold some furniture to a random guy yesterday, and he is on his 8th year as a marine corps armorer... We got to talking and he said he's never seen so many ND reports coming through since they started using the M18, and that sig is nothing but dodgy when responding and always blaming something else, even the "ammo".

Has anyone made a similar swap for that safety reason? How did it work out ? I'm testing the waters on selling the 365 but might hold onto it.

I have done the same thing and it is my favorite CCW I switched from the P365 xl I got rid of my P365 and my P320. My feelings are the same if I’m gonna have a weapon pointed at my junk all day it’s gonna be a hammer fired. I never felt comfortable with a P365. The p2000 although a bit bigger feels like a gun in the hand. I did switch to the LEM trigger, which took a bit of getting used to, but I like it better and have switched out the triggers on my other HK‘s to the LEM variant.

Ah dang, I do not have those forceps, just a regular needle nose plier lol. Well, I got time this weekend to tackle it.

bonesurf is right, I highly recommend getting the forceps. Its difficult enough using them, I couldn't imagine not having them.
Also, I recommend working in a place where the spring won't get lost easily when you change it. Mine flew out the first time and it took my an hour to find it.

I switched from carrying a M&P Shield to carrying a P2000sk.
Best decision I ever made! I'd say that's a similar switch up. When I shot the Shield the grip would dance in my hand and I would need to readjust. With the P2000sk my grip remains consistent. It's a little tank so you do would have to deal with its bulkiness, but a little girth don't hurt no body. Shoots even better with a regular P30 or P2000 back up mag.

Out of all of the micro/ sub compact semi-auto's I would say it has the best recoil management system. I shoot my 9mm and .40 both with ease and accuracy. Also the DA/SA system is nice which would allow me to throw it in my pocket, bag, glove box VS always needing the striker fired system in holster at all times. I'm 6'1" 295 lbs, so carrying this IWB, OWB, or pocket is fine.

If it's a DA/SA with the hammer de-cocked or a DAO (where I can thumb the hammer), then hell yeah brother! If it's SAO or striker fired, then that's a hell no brother.
