I used to hear a lot of chatter that Springfield was going to get the Prodigy on the roster. Any updates or can anyone verify / debunk this? I'm considering a Staccato, but would wait foe the Prodigy if it's on the horizon...
 
I’ve not heard that news recently. It’d be a good platform if you’re trying to build something, but it’s somewhat lacking out of the box. They may be struggling with having to redesign it to pass drop testing or convert it to a series 80 and whether it makes sense cost wise to do so.

They're pistols that are on the roster passed drop safe testing back in the day, they use a heavy firing pin spring with a light firing pin. The biggest hurdle is the lci, the prodigy doesn't have an external extractor. They would make a lot of fans even outside California if they started using an external extractor though.

If it ever made it it would cost 1500 plus 300 dollars taxes and they are found on here used for ~2k so if you want one I would get one ppt. The staccato on the roster is a completely different thing though, if you want a compact gun with a polymer grip get the staccato, if you want a full size 5" that you can put a steel or aluminum grip on and customize the trigger etc I would get a prodigy or similar

You want a staccato so get a staccato. Save extra and just get it lol.
 
The Kimber 2k11s will blow the Prodigy out of the water if/(when) they are added to the roster. They'll be more expensive, but worth it.
 
Not worth it unless you want to really break it in and or getting it worked on and polished up. Had one. First few rounds were ok then nothing but fail into battery got it polishedup and still had some issues sold it. Wait fornthr 2k11 the p211 or just go broken on a staccato.
 
Springfield said hellcats, echelons, then prodigy. So should be sometime soon, hopefully
 
Its a pretty crappy feeling getting one then it just jams ever round. Can it be fix? Yes. Lot of people just strip them and rebuild them. Time and money.
 
Prodigies are terrible guns. Everyone on the internet that doesn't have one hates them. If you have a Prodigy that you don't like I will buy it for $1k, legit offer. I'm in SoCal. PM me if you want to get rid of your broken Prodigy that no one wants.

In regards to the OP, don't buy a rostered gun and buy what you want. Are you buying a gun for you or to get validation from the internet? If you want a Staccato then get it, but don't go for a rostered version of whatever gun may be. There's so many bs'ers on the internet. You have to decide who to believe, those who hate what they don't have or those that run what they have, or even worse - those that praise what they wish they could have.

The Prodigy would have to be around the $1k mark to be worth it in my opinion, it's not really a great platform. Some guys will say they're good "builders guns" however by the time you're done making it into the gun you thought it was, you're into the thing enough money to just buy something better to begin with. I've fixed a couple that have been "improved" by someone else (usually means they bought some parts kit, dropped everything into the gun without fitting, and then wondered why things weren't right) and I'm not really a huge fan even once the triggers have been tuned up.

This would make sense if people didn’t buy 600 dollar flocks to spend another 1200 to make it the way they want. If they would have just spent 1800 dollars they could have gotten something better. People like to tinker. People like to build stuff. Even if they buy that “better” gun they will still replace things on it to make it the way they like.

I agree, some people do absolutely like to tinker and for that reason it may be a decent starter platform. However in my experience with that particular platform, seeing them out at the range, and talking with their owners, most just want to shoot the things and aren't happy with them once they've handled other 2011's

like he said it would make sense if we could get Prodigys here for 1000 bucks like elsewhere, but here people spend 2500 and then another 1000 on a grip and trigger job, there are definitely better options for 3500

A lot of people can justify dropping 3500 on a gun. But can absolutely drop 1500 on a gun, and then say hey I don’t like the trigger and do a trigger job and then say hey I want a red dot and get a red dot. Buying piece by piece. The kimbers are coming to California so I think that will help a lot of people get into the 2k11 that don’t want to buy a staccato.

Yes and supposedly Springfield is trying to get the prodigy on the roster. The kimbers that they chose to put on the roster are a bit annoying though, they didn't do any basic models so they are all overpriced. The "target" model which is the only non comped 5" is the most expensive one and the only difference between that and the basic one that costs over 500 less out of state is the coating and a magwell. There's no 2000 dollar one they are all up near 3k. We still don't have great entry level options that would be conducive to doing a bunch of mods unfortunately. We need some 800 dollar Turkish 2011s.
